As a result of surveying the water quality and sand for 7 beaches in Busan, all the beaches were found to meet the standards.

Busan City and the Institute of Health and Environment welcomed the full-fledged summer vacation, and confirmed whether enterococci (100 MPN/100 mL water quality) and E. coli (500 MPN/100 mL water quality standards), which are indicators of water-borne diseases, were detected.

As a result (median), Haeundae and Songjeong Beaches partially opened on June 1 met the water quality standards with 0-5 MPN/100mL for enterococci and 0-10MPN/100mL for Escherichia coli, and Dadaepo, Songdo, and Gwangalli, which opened on July 1 , Ilgwang, and Imrang Beach were also suitable for enterococci 0-32 MPN/100 mL and E. coli 0-266 MPN/100 mL.

In addition, the sand investigation of the sandy beach confirmed whether cadmium, arsenic, lead, mercury, and hexavalent chromium were detected. As a result of surveying 7 beaches, 0~0.37mg/kg of cadmium (4mg/kg based on sand), 3.05~6.60mg/kg of arsenic (25mg/kg based on sand), 5.0~11.3mg/kg of lead (200mg/kg based on sand) , mercury 0mg/kg (sand-based 4mg/kg), and hexavalent chromium 0mg/kg (sand-based 5mg/kg) all satisfied the environmental standards of the sandy beach.

Jeong Yeong-ran, head of the Busan Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "We recommend that you refrain from bathing immediately after rain, as land pollutants, such as domestic sewage and non-point pollutants, may flow into the beach and temporarily deteriorate the water quality during heavy rainfall during the rainy season."
