The opposition is growing fiercely against the announcement of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's selection of candidate sites for the construction of the Kun-hee Kun-hee Collection Hall in Yongsan and Songhyeon-dong, Seoul.

The city of Busan strongly opposed the 'selection of candidate sites in Yongsan and Songhyeon-dong, Seoul for the National Donation of Kun-hee Collection' announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 7th, saying, "Despite the fair process of public offerings, the unilateral decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to build Seoul is an administration that ignores the region." .

The city expressed deep regret and strongly opposed this as a unilateral decision that did not go through the minimum fair procedure as well as disregard for the regions that demanded regional attraction in terms of cultural decentralization and balanced national development.

Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon said on SNS, "Is the decision to host the Lee Kun-hee Collection in Seoul a proof of the Moon Jae-in administration's unipolarism in the metropolitan area?" "Is Seoul the only country in Korea?, It is a typical case that shows how much Seoul centralism and unipolarism in the metropolitan area are.”

Mayor Park continued, "About 30 local governments across the country eagerly wanted to attract local governments with the hope for balanced cultural development," adding, "It will overcome the growing cultural gap compared to Seoul and related economic stagnation and population outflow. It expresses the wishes of the local people to create an opportunity to do so,” he said.

He said, "However, the decision was made unilaterally without any public hearings or debates, at least ignoring the local demand for a public contest. It's extreme. Can we still talk about balanced development like this?"

"If you are afraid of the local people's judgment, I apologize immediately for the wrong decision and strongly request that you correct it even now," he said.

He added, "Aiming at the 2030 World Expo, I will definitely do my best to attract an art museum that will be a pair with the Opera House, which is aiming for a world-class music destination."

Meanwhile, Mayor Park, at a press conference in early May, proposed that the site selection for the Kun-Hee Lee Museum be a public contest for cultural decentralization and balanced development.

In addition, the consensus was spread to all the members of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, ruling.opposition party.political area in Busan, and the governors of the Yeongnam region. The Busan Arts Council, the local art community, and the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry also continued to convey the aspirations and will of many citizens who wish to attract non-metropolitan areas.

Of the 21 national museums and art galleries established in the last 10 years, 8, or 38%, are located in the metropolitan area. Therefore, if the Lee Kun-hee Donation Center is built in Seoul, 80% of the total national art museums will be located in the metropolitan area.

As the National Museum of World Literature, which will be completed this year, and the National Museum of Korean Literature, to be built in 2024, are also scheduled to be built in Incheon and Seoul, the cultural concentration phenomenon in the metropolitan area is intensifying. If the 'Lee Kun-hee Donation Center' is built in Yongsan or Songhyeon-dong, Seoul, the Republic of Korea will become a 'metropolitan area'. There is a growing opposition that it will inevitably lead to 'unipolarism'.
