[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 김두관 의원이 더불어민주당 경남도당 위원장에 출마를 선언했다.

김 의원은 27일 "당원 민주주의 실현하는 경남도당을 만들것"이라며 "영남 민주당 복원이 당 차원에서는 더욱 크고 시급한 과제”라며 이같이 밝혔다.

이어 “당 지도부로 역할을 하는 것보다 경남의 당원조직, 지역위원회와 도당 조직을 일으켜 세우는 것이 더욱 중요하다"고 강조했다.

당초 김 의원은 당대표나 최고의원 출마 하마평이 있었으나, 경남도당 위원장을 맡는 것으로 선회했다. 

이에 대해 김 의원은 “지난 대선과 지방선거에 패배한 후 영남지역에서 더불어민주당의 당세는 크게 위축된 상황"이라며 "특히 자치단체장과 광역의원 선거에서 부산은 광역 및 기초단체장 전체를 국민의힘에 내주었고, 경남도 남해군 하나만 수성한 상황이다. 울산도 진보당 단체장이 한 명 있지만 민주당 단체장은 없다. 광역의원도 부산에서는 선출직 없이 비례만 2석, 울산도 비례만 1석, 경남에서는 선출직 2석을 포함해 4석에 불과하다. 영남에서 당세가 2006년 이전으로 되돌아갔다는 지적으로, 이대로는 2년 후 총선도 어렵다는 위기감이 팽배해 있다"라고 설명했다.

한편, 경남도당 위원장에는 박준호 전 경남도의원이 출마를 선언해 2파전 경선으로 치러진다. 경선은 다음달 10~12일 온라인 투표와 13일 현장 투표를 통해 위원장을 선출할 예정이다.
