[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 16일 오후 2시 기장군 야구테마파크 내 사업 부지에서 ‘한국야구명예의전당’ 착공식을 개최하고 본격적인 공사에 들어갔다.

이날 행사에는 박형준 부산시장을 비롯해 허구연 한국야구위원회(KBO) 총재, 정종복 기장군수, 시·군의원, 야구계 인사, 지역 주민 등이 참석했다.

‘한국야구명예의전당’ 건립 사업은 2011년 한국야구위원회가 추진한 ‘한국 야구 100주년 기념 사업’의 일환으로 시작됐다. 이후 부산시와 기장군이 공동으로 유치에 나섰고, 시·군·KBO 간 3자 실시협약을 통해 사업이 확정됐다. 협약에 따라 부산시는 건립비를, 기장군은 부지를 제공하며, KBO는 전시 유물과 콘텐츠를 마련하게 된다.

명예의전당은 연면적 2,998㎡ 규모로, 지상 3층 건물로 조성된다. 완공 목표는 2026년 10월이다. 1층에는 한국 야구의 역사와 발전 과정을 주제별로 소개하는 전시장이 마련되고, 2층에는 야구계 인물의 헌액 공간인 ‘명예의전당’이 들어선다. 이 공간은 인공지능 기반 미디어아트 기술을 활용해 경기 장면과 기록을 체험할 수 있도록 구성된다. 3층은 수장고와 사무 공간으로 활용된다. 한국야구위원회가 보유한 약 4만 9천여 점의 야구 관련 유물이 전시 및 콘텐츠에 활용될 예정이다.

부산시는 이번 명예의전당 건립이 기장군 야구테마파크, 오시리아 관광단지 등과 연계되어 관광·문화자원으로 기능할 것으로 보고 있다. 또한 야구를 매개로 한 세대 간 교류와 지역 스포츠 문화 확산에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

박형준 시장은 착공식에서 “이번 착공은 한국 야구 120년 역사를 기념하고 새로운 100년을 준비하는 출발점”이라며 “부산을 대표하는 야구 명소로 조성하겠다”고 말했다.

[BUSAN, South Korea] — The city of Busan held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Korea Baseball Hall of Fame at 2 p.m. on September 16 at the designated site within the Baseball Theme Park in Gijang County, marking the official start of construction.

The ceremony was attended by Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) Commissioner Heo Koo-yeon, Gijang County Mayor Jeong Jong-bok, members of the city and county councils, figures from the baseball community, and local residents.

The Hall of Fame project began as part of the KBO’s 2011 initiative to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Korean baseball. It was finalized through a joint bid by Busan City and Gijang County, followed by a three-party agreement among the city, the county, and the KBO. Under this agreement, Busan City will fund the construction, Gijang County will provide the land, and the KBO will supply exhibition content and artifacts.

The Korea Baseball Hall of Fame will be a three-story building with a total floor area of 2,998 square meters. The facility is scheduled for completion in October 2026. The first floor will feature an exhibition hall presenting the history and development of Korean baseball, while the second floor will house the Hall of Fame itself, honoring inductees.

This area will include AI-based media art displays that allow visitors to experience memorable game moments and records. The third floor will include storage and office space. The KBO plans to utilize its collection of approximately 49,000 baseball-related artifacts for the exhibitions.

Busan City expects the Hall of Fame to become a key cultural and tourism asset, linking with nearby attractions such as the Baseball Theme Park and Osiria Tourism Complex. It is also anticipated to serve as a platform for intergenerational exchange and the promotion of baseball culture in the region.

During the ceremony, Mayor Park stated, “This groundbreaking marks a new beginning for the next 100 years of Korean baseball, commemorating its 120-year history. We aim to make this site a landmark that symbolizes both the history and future of baseball in Busan.”
