[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 ‘제1회 글로벌도시관광서밋'을 글로벌도시관광진흥기구(TPO).부산관광공사와 공동으로 27~ 29일까지 해운대 파라다이스호텔 등지에서 개최한다. 

이번 행사는 아시아, 유럽, 아프리카 등 세계 14개국 22개 주요 도시의 시장과 고위 공직자, 국제기구 관계자, 관광 산업계 및 학계 전문가 등 약 400여 명이 대거 참석, 글로벌 도시관광 협력 체계를 구축하는 대규모 국제회의다.

올해 처음 열리는 글로벌도시관광서밋((The 1st Global City Tourism Summit)’은 부산이 코로나19 이후 빠르게 회복하며 글로벌 관광거점도시로 부상하는 시점에서 개최돼, 디지털 전환과 로컬리즘, 지속가능한 관광 생태계 구축, 국제도시 간 협력 강화를 위한 공론의 장을 마련했다.

개회식은 오는 27일 오전 10시 파라다이스호텔 부산 그랜드볼룸에서 진행되며, 부산을 비롯한 주요 참석 도시 시장들과 UN 세계관광기구(UN Tourism), 한국관광공사, 문화체육관광부, 주한외교단 등 국내외 주요 기관‧기업 인사들이 한자리에 모인다. 개회식에는 지역 청년과 시민을 위한 오픈 프로그램도 별도로 준비된다.

총 23개의 공식 프로그램에는 ▲시장회담 및 공동선언문 채택 ▲UN Tourism과 공동 개최 기조세션 ▲주한 5대국 대사가 각국 관광정책을 소개하는 특별 외교세션 ▲관광기업‧벤처투자사‧스타트업 간 글로벌 비즈니스 밋업 ▲지역 관광 혁신사례를 공유하는 세션이 포함된다.

또, 청년이 직접 참여하는 ‘청년관광커넥트토크쇼’와 TPO 회원도시의 우수정책을 체험하는 현장 투어, 차세대 관광정책전문가를 양성하는 ‘글로벌 관광공유대학’ 네트워크 출범 등 차별화된 프로그램이 다양하게 진행된다.

특히 27일 ‘시장회담(Mayors’ Roundtable)’에는 박형준 시장을 비롯해 아시아, 유럽, 아프리카, 중동 각국 대표들이 한목소리로 미래 관광 발전방안, 지속가능성과 포용성, 도시 간 실질 협력방안에 대해 논의한다. 협의 결과는 ‘시장공동선언문(Mayors’ Joint Statement)’에 담겨 세계 관광도시간 협력 의지를 공식화할 예정이다.

올해 부산은 역대 최대인 200만 명의 외국인 관광객이 방문하며 관광 회복세를 견인하고 있다. 시는 이번 서밋을 통해 조기 300만 관광객 유치를 실현하는 한편, 한-중앙아시아, 글로벌 미식관광 등 연계행사도 병행해 아시아-유럽-아프리카 주요 도시를 잇는 국제 관광 비즈니스 플랫폼으로 자리매김할 계획이다.

박형준 부산시장은 “관광은 국경, 도시, 세대를 넘어 연결과 상생을 이뤄내는 평화의 다리”라며 “부산이 글로벌 도시관광 정책과 비즈니스, 인재 교류를 선도하는 허브로 도약하도록 ‘글로벌도시관광서밋’을 매년 정례화하겠다”고 밝혔다.

-More than 400 global tourism leaders from 22 cities across 14 countries gather in Haeundae to discuss digital innovation, sustainability, and youth connectivity in the future of tourism

Busan Metropolitan City, together with the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO) and the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO), will host the 1st Global City Tourism Summit from October 27 to 29 at the Paradise Hotel and other venues across Haeundae.

This large-scale international event will bring together mayors and senior officials from 22 major cities in 14 countries, as well as representatives from international organizations, academia, and the tourism industry, to establish a comprehensive network for global city tourism cooperation.

A Shared Vision for Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism

Launching for the first time this year, the summit comes at a pivotal time as Busan continues to recover rapidly from the COVID-19 pandemic and emerges as a major global tourism destination. The event provides a platform to discuss digital transformation, localism-based tourism, sustainable development, and intercity collaboration for shared growth in the tourism industry.

The opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on October 27 in the Grand Ballroom of Paradise Hotel Busan. It will be attended by mayors of participating cities, representatives from the UN World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), the Korea Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and members of the diplomatic corps in Korea. A special open session for local youth and citizens will also be held.

23 Programs Covering Policy, Business, Innovation, and Youth

A total of 23 programs will run throughout the three-day event. Key sessions include: ▲The Mayors’ Roundtable and signing of a Joint Declaration ▲A keynote session co-hosted with UN Tourism ▲A diplomatic session featuring five ambassadors presenting their national tourism policies ▲A global business meetup connecting tourism companies, venture investors, and startups ▲The Youth Tourism Connect Talk Show promoting cross-generational exchange in tourism innovation

The summit will also feature a field tour of TPO member cities’ successful tourism projects and the launch of the Global Tourism Sharing University—a cooperative network designed to foster the next generation of tourism policy experts. This initiative includes participation from Busan, TPO, the Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA), and 21 universities in the Busan region.

Mayors’ Roundtable and Joint Declaration

One of the highlight events, the Mayors’ Roundtable, will convene mayors from across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East—led by Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon. They will discuss sustainable and inclusive growth strategies for urban tourism, and formalize their shared commitment through the Mayors’ Joint Statement on Global Tourism Cooperation.

Building a Platform for Global Tourism Collaboration

Busan aims to use the summit as a stepping stone toward welcoming three million international visitors in the near future—following its record-breaking 2 million foreign arrivals earlier this year. To enhance its global reach, the summit will coincide with upcoming initiatives such as the 2025 Busan Global City Week and the 2025 Global Culinary Forum, designed to promote broader international cooperation and cultural exchange.

Mayor Park stated, “Tourism is a bridge of peace connecting nations, cities, and people. Its true value lies in sharing and respecting diverse local cultures in a sustainable way.” He added, “By institutionalizing the Global City Tourism Summit as an annual event, Busan will continue to serve as a hub for global tourism policy, business collaboration, and talent exchange.”
