[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 2025 APEC 정상회의의 일환으로 경주에서 열린 한.미정상회의에서 양국은 항공, 에너지, 기술, 해양 분야에서 대규모 수출 및 투자 계약을 체결하고 굳건한 전략적 동맹을 재확인했다.

2025 APEC 정상회의 기간 중 경주에서 열린 한.미정상회의에서 도널드 J. 트럼프 미국 대통령과 대한민국 정부는 미국 경제와 안보 이익을 대폭 강화하는 수십억 달러 규모의 여러 계약들을 발표했다. 이번 협력 성과는 미 전역에서 약 13만 5천 개의 일자리를 지원할 전망이다.

백악관은 "오늘 도널드 J. 트럼프 대통령은 역사적인 인도-태평양 순방의 마지막 일정을 마치며 대한민국(ROK)을 방문하여 수십억 달러 규모의 획기적인 계약을 체결했다"며 "이 계약에는 미국 일자리 지원, 미국의 에너지 주도권 강화, 기술 혁명에서의 미국 리더십 증진, 해양 협력 증진 등의 이니셔티브가 포함되었다."고 29일 밝혔다.

대한항공은 362억 달러 상당의 보잉 최신 항공기 103대를 구매하는 대형 계약을 체결했으며, 이에 필요한 137억 달러 규모의 최신 GE 에어로스페이스 엔진 구매도 함께 확정했다. 또한 대한민국 공군은 L3해리스 테크놀로지스와 23억 달러 규모의 신형 조기경보기 개발 계약을 맺어 약 6,000개의 미국 일자리를 창출할 예정이다. 미국 희토류 기업 ReElement Technologies와 포스코인터내셔널은 미국 내 희토류 생산 복합단지 설립을 위해 협력한다.

에너지 분야에서는 한국가스공사가 트라피구라, 토탈에너지 등과 장기 계약을 통해 연간 330만 톤 규모의 미국 액화천연가스(LNG)를 구매하기로 했고, 미 기업들과 함께 우라늄 농축 시설 확장 및 3,000개 일자리 창출에 나섰다. LS 그룹은 2030년까지 30억 달러의 미국 전력망 인프라 투자 계획을 발표했으며, 자회사 LS 그린링크는 버지니아에 6억 8,100만 달러의 제조 시설을 건설 중이다.

기술 분야 협력도 확대됐다. 양국은 인공지능(AI) 수출, AI 표준 및 채택, 6G 통신, 바이오테크 공급망, 양자 혁신 등 과학기술 협력을 강화하는 기술 번영 협정을 체결했다. 아마존은 2031년까지 50억 달러를 투자해 대한민국 클라우드 인프라 구축에 나서며, NASA 아르테미스 II 미션에 한국 위성 탑재도 확정되었다. 또한 광물 공급망 안정화를 위한 민관 협력도 약속되었다.

해양 분야에서는 HD 현대와 서베러스 캐피털 매니지먼트가 50억 달러 규모로 미국 조선소 현대화와 자율 항해 등 신기술 도입을 위한 공동 투자 계획을 발표했다. 삼성중공업과 비고 마린 그룹도 미국 조선 산업을 위한 유지보수와 신조 등에 협력하며, 한화 오션은 펜실베이니아 필리 선박 조선소의 인력과 생산력을 10배 이상 확충하는 50억 달러 투자 계획을 밝혔다.

백악관은 "이번 정상회의는 한미 양국 간의 경제적 협력과 전략적 동맹을 강화하는 동시에 미국의 태평양 내 주도적 역할을 재확인하는 중요한 계기가 되었으며, 일본과 말레이시아에서의 성과와 함께 미국 내 수천 개의 일자리와 수십억 달러의 투자를 견고히 하는 결과를 가져왔다"고 밝혔다.

SECURING BILLIONS IN EXPORTS AND INVESTMENTS: Today, President Donald J. Trump completed the final stop of his historic Indo-Pacific trip by visiting the Republic of Korea (ROK), securing billions in landmark deals. These initiatives support American jobs, advance America's energy dominance, promote American leadership in the technology revolution, and strengthen our maritime partnership.

Korean Air will purchase 103 new Boeing aircraft valued at $36.2 billion, supporting up to 135,000 jobs across the United States. To power these new aircraft, Korean Air will also separately purchase state-of-the-art GE Aerospace engines valued at $13.7 billion. The ROK Air Force selected L3Harris Technologies to develop its new Airborne Warning and Control aircraft in a $2.3 billion deal that will support over 6,000 American jobs. America's ReElement Technologies and POSCO International will partner to launch a U.S.-based, vertically integrated rare earth separation, refining, and magnet production complex focused on high-value mobility magnets.

FURTHERING AMERICA'S ENERGY DOMINANCE: The President secured key investments that further solidify the United States' position as the global energy leader. Korea Gas Corporation signed agreements to purchase about 3.3 million tons per year of U.S. LNG through long-term agreements with sellers including Trafigura and TotalEnergy, and offtake agreements with U.S. LNG producers like Cheniere. Centrus Energy Corp, KHNP, and POSCO International Corporation agreed to support the expansion of Centrus' uranium enrichment capacity in Piketon, Ohio, creating 3,000 jobs in the United States. LS Group pledged to invest $3 billion by 2030 in U.S. power-grid infrastructure, including undersea cables, power equipment, and winding wires. LS Cable’s U.S. subsidiary, LS Greenlink, is building a $681 million manufacturing facility in Virginia.

PROMOTING AMERICA'S ADVANTAGE IN THE TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION: The President strengthened America's leading role in the digitized economy by boosting investments, jobs, and access to U.S. technology. The United States and the ROK are signing a Technology Prosperity Deal to expand bilateral science and technology cooperation with emphasis on U.S. AI exports, AI standards, AI adoption, research security, 6G, biotech supply chains, and quantum innovation. Amazon will invest $5 billion through 2031 to build the ROK’s cloud infrastructure, boosting U.S. exports and American AI leadership. This follows Amazon Web Services’ historic $40 billion cloud infrastructure investments across 14 APEC economies during the President’s term. NASA’s Artemis II mission will take astronauts around the Moon for the first time since Apollo, deploying a Korean satellite to measure space radiation. Both countries committed to stabilize and diversify the critical mineral supply chain through public-private collaboration in mining and refining.

BUILDING OUR MARITIME PARTNERSHIP: The President secured investments from the ROK to modernize and expand American shipbuilding industries, including investments in U.S. shipyards and workforce. HD Hyundai and Cerberus Capital Management will partner on a $5 billion investment program to modernize American shipyards, strengthen supply chains, and apply new technologies like autonomous navigation, digitalization, and automation. Samsung Heavy Industries and Vigor Marine Group will cooperate on naval vessel maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO), shipyard automation, and new construction of U.S.-flagged vessels. Hanwha Ocean announced a $5 billion infrastructure plan to strengthen Pennsylvania’s Philly Shipyard workforce and increase production capacity by more than ten-fold.

REESTABLISHING AMERICAN LEADERSHIP: President Trump's State Visit to Korea reaffirmed the steadfast alliance between the United States and the ROK while advancing U.S. economic interests, delivering tangible benefits for the American people. This capstone stop on President Trump’s Asia travels underscored America’s prominent role as the preeminent Pacific power. Today's announcements build on historic trade victories and infrastructure commitments secured by the President in Japan and Malaysia, bringing billions in investments and thousands of jobs to America.
