[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 미래 대중교통 서비스의 전초전으로, 3일 밤부터 야간 BRT 전용차로에서 자율주행버스의 본격적인 시험 운행에 돌입한다.

내성교차로~해운대구청 구간을 달릴 이번 시범 운행은 서비스 개시 전 기술·안전성 검증과 운행 데이터 확보에 초점이 맞춰진다.

부산시는 자율주행 대중교통 서비스 확대를 위해 3일 오후 11시 30분부터 내성교차로~중동 BRT전용차로 구간에서 자율주행버스 시험 운행을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

내년 정식 운행을 앞둔 사전검증으로, 승객 없이 운행하며 시스템 안전성 평가, 인공지능 학습, 운행 데이터 축적이 주목적이다.

이번 운행은 차량-사물 통신(V2X) 및 정밀지도 등 차량과 도로 인프라 연동성을 검증하고, 실제 노선 주행 안정성을 확인해 향후 부산 전역 자율주행 대중교통 모델 구축을 위한 기초자료로 활용된다.

시험 운행은 약 2개월 동안 평일마다 오후 11시 30분~새벽 3시 30분에 진행된다. 운행 구간은 동래구 내성교차로에서 해운대구청어귀삼거리까지 BRT 전용차로다.

자율주행 시스템의 정밀 조정 과정을 거치면서 버스는 정속 운행을 유지하며, 일시적으로 저속 운행 또는 차로 이용 불편, 교통 지연이 발생할 수 있다. 부산시는 모든 차량에 시험운전자와 안전관리요원을 배치해 돌발상황을 대비하고, 초기에는 수동 운전도 병행하는 등 안전을 최우선한다는 방침이다.

시 관계자는 “차로 이용 불편과 정체 발생 가능성에 대해 시민들의 양해를 당부드린다”고 전했다. 황현철 시 교통혁신국장은 “이번 시험운행은 미래 대중교통 서비스 도입 전 과정의 불가피한 검증이며, 시민들이 신뢰할 수 있는 자율주행 서비스 모델을 완성할 것”이라고 말했다.

Busan City is commencing formal nighttime trial runs of autonomous buses on the dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes starting tonight, November 3.

The pilot program between Naeseong Intersection and Haeundae-gu Office focuses on validating technology and safety, as well as collecting operating data ahead of next year's official service launch.  

The trials begin on November 3 at 11:30 p.m., covering the Naeseong Intersection to Jung-dong BRT corridor. Operating without passengers as a pre-launch safety and performance check, the trial aims to validate system reliability, support AI learning, and accumulate operational data.  

This testing will verify vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, precision mapping, and the integration between vehicles and road infrastructure. It also assesses driving stability on live bus routes, providing foundational data for expanding autonomous public transit services citywide.  

Scheduled on weekdays from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. over roughly two months, the trial runs along the BRT-exclusive lane between Dongnae-gu Naeseong Intersection and the Haeundae-gu Office intersection.  

During this calibration phase, autonomous buses maintain constant speeds, which may cause temporary lane congestion and traffic slowdowns. Busan City has assigned test drivers and safety personnel on all vehicles for emergency intervention, with manual driving deployed initially to ensure safety.  

City officials have requested public understanding of possible short-term disruptions. Hwang Hyun-chul, Director of the Transportation Innovation Bureau, stated, "While some delays and inconvenience are unavoidable in this trial, it is a necessary step toward introducing a trusted and convenient autonomous public transit model for Busan citizens."
