[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산대학교 영화연구소와 부산현대미술관이 오는 29일 ‘2025 부산현대미술관 시네미디어_영화 이후’ 전시와 연계해 학술 심포지엄 ‘영화, 영화적인 것, 영화의 경계들’을 공동 개최한다.

이번 심포지엄은 영화의 미학과 역할이 확장되는 시대에 ‘영화적인 것’의 의미를 새롭게 조명하고, 변화하는 영상예술의 지형을 다각도로 탐구하기 위해 마련됐다.  

이번 행사는 부산대 RISE(라이즈, 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계) 사업의 일환으로, 지역 문화예술기관과의 협력을 통해 부울경 지역의 예술가·연구자·학생·시민의 문화 역량을 넓히는 것을 목표로 한다.  

심포지엄은 ‘포스트시네마’ 논의를 넘어 영화의 시작과 확장, 그리고 미술과의 경계에 대한 학문적 성찰을 시도한다. 세션은 1부 ‘영화는 어디서 시작되는가?’와 2부 ‘영화와 미술’로 나뉘어 진행될 예정이다.  

1부에서는 이정하 단국대 교수가 ‘영화적 시간 체험과 이미지 사유’를 주제로 영화가 지닌 시간성과 사유의 관계를 탐구하고, 오준호 서강대 교수가 1927년 과학영화 상영 사례를 통해 대중과학과 광학기술이 교차한 초기 영화교육의 실험을 소개한다.

이어 김호영 한양대 교수가 자파르 파나히의 ‘노 베어스’를 통해 영화 프레임의 경계 해체를 분석하고, 김채희 부산대 연구원이 21세기 영화의 편재성을 ‘디스포지티프(Dispositif)’ 개념으로 재해석한다.  

2부에서는 이지은 명지대 교수가 만 레이, 뒤샹, 백남준 등 영화 매체를 실험한 현대미술가들의 작업을 통해 재현과 기억, 고스트 등 핵심 주제를 살핀다. 조선령 부산대 교수는 백남준의 ‘영화를 위한 선’을 사례로 영상 매체의 시각성과 수행성이 관람자의 신체를 통해 결합되는 방식을 분석한다.

이어 이진실 한국예술종합학교 연구자는 로잘린드 크라우스의 재귀성 개념을 바탕으로 ‘포스트시네마 시대의 영화적 재배치’를 논하고, 손영실 경일대 교수는 사진과 영화 사이 경계의 희미화 현상이 지각과 예술 표현에 미친 변화를 다룬다.  

이번 심포지엄은 영상예술과 영화 이론에 관심 있는 누구나 참여할 수 있으며, 선착순 50명 한정으로 진행된다. 참가 신청은 포스터 내 QR코드 또는 부산시 통합예약시스템을 통해 가능하다. 잔여석이 있을 경우 현장 접수도 진행될 예정이다.

[Below is the full English news article] Pusan National University and Busan MoCA to Host Symposium Exploring the Boundaries of Cinema

Pusan National University and the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art announced on Nov. 18 that they will jointly hold an academic symposium titled “Cinema, the Cinematic, the Boundaries of Film” on Nov. 29 at Theater Eulsuk, located in the museum’s lower level. The event accompanies the exhibition “2025 Busan MoCA CINEMEDIA: After Film,” which examines the evolving notion of “the cinematic” and the expanding landscape of moving image art.  

Held as part of PNU’s RISE (Regional Innovation System for Education) initiative, the symposium aims to enhance the cultural capacity of artists, researchers, students, and citizens in the Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam region through collaboration between the university and local cultural institutions.  

Under the theme of rethinking the meaning of “the cinematic” beyond the limits of post-cinema discourse, the symposium will open a broad discussion on how film continuously transcends its boundaries across art, technology, and philosophy. The program consists of two sessions: “Where Does Cinema Begin?” and “Film and Art.”  

In the first session, Professor Lee Jung-ha (Dankook University) will explore the temporal experience of cinema and its role in image-based thinking, while Professor Oh Joon-ho (Sogang University) will revisit a 1927 case of science films being screened as avant-garde cinema, examining early intersections between optical technology, popular science, and film education. Professor Kim Ho-young (Hanyang University) will analyze Jafar Panahi’s *No Bears*, focusing on how cinematic framing collapses the boundary between inside and outside, fiction and documentary. Researcher Kim Chae-hee (PNU) will present a theoretical perspective that treats cinema as a dynamic “dispositif,” or cinematic apparatus, to explore its omnipresence in the 21st century.  

The second session shifts toward the dialogue between film and fine art. Professor Lee Ji-eun (Myongji University) will discuss the works of Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, and Nam June Paik, emphasizing issues such as representation, memory, and the spectral within contemporary art. Professor Jo Sun-ryeong (PNU) will analyze Paik’s *Line for Film*, describing how the work bridges visuality and performativity through the body of the viewer. Researcher Lee Jin-sil (Korea National University of Arts) will reinterpret the rearrangement of “the cinematic” in the post-cinema era through Rosalind Krauss’s concept of “recursivity,” and Professor Son Young-sil (Kyungil University) will explore how the increasingly blurred line between photography and film reshapes artistic perception and expression.  

The symposium is open to the public with a maximum of 50 participants. Registration is available via the QR code on the event poster or through the Busan City online reservation system.
