[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 김해국제공항 내에 ‘김해국제공항 긴급여권 민원센터’를 신설해 내년(2026년) 3월부터 운영한다.

이에 따라 여권 분실이나 훼손 등으로 긴급여권이 필요한 시민은 시청이나 강서구청으로 이동하지 않고 공항에서 즉시 발급받을 수 있게 된다.  

올해(2025년) 김해국제공항 국제선 이용객은 지역 공항 최초로 1천만 명을 넘어설 것으로 예상된다. 국제선 승객 증가에 따라 긴급여권 발급 수요도 급증해 2024년에는 2,795건에 달하는 등 매년 크게 늘고 있다.  

그동안 긴급여권 발급은 인천국제공항을 제외하면 지방공항에서는 불가능해, 김해공항 이용자는 부산시청(약 18㎞)이나 강서구청(약 7.5㎞)을 방문해야 하는 불편이 있었다.

시는 이를 해결하기 위해 올해 8월부터 외교부 주관 부서와 지역 국회의원을 잇달아 방문하며 ▲공항 이용객 증가 추세 ▲시민 불편 실태 ▲지역 공항 특성 등을 구체적으로 설명하고 필요성을 적극 전달해 왔다. 그 결과 2026년도 정부 예산과 인력을 최종 확보, 설치가 확정됐다.  

김해국제공항 긴급여권 민원센터가 문을 열면 공항에서 바로 여권을 발급받을 수 있는 지방공항 최초 사례가 된다. 부산시는 이동 시간과 비용 부담을 줄여 시민 편익이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대하고 있다.  

박형준 부산시장은 “김해국제공항 긴급여권 민원센터 신설은 수도권 중심 행정을 바로잡고 지역 균형 발전을 실현하는 의미 있는 조치”라며 “공항에서 바로 긴급여권을 발급받을 수 있게 되면 시민들의 불편이 획기적으로 줄어들 것”이라고 말했다.

 -First for Regional Airports, Easing Traveler Burdens Amid Surging International Traffic

BUSAN — Busan city will open an emergency passport service center at Gimhae International Airport next March, allowing travelers to obtain replacement passports on site without traveling to city hall or district offices.

This year, Gimhae Airport's international passenger traffic is projected to exceed 10 million for the first time among regional airports, driving a sharp rise in emergency passport demand to 2,795 issuances in 2024. Previously, lost or damaged passports required trips to Busan City Hall about 18 kilometers away or 45 minutes by public transport, or to nearby Gangseo District Office, 7.5 kilometers or 25 minutes away.

Since August, the city has lobbied the Foreign Ministry and local lawmakers, highlighting rising passenger numbers, local airport needs and citizen inconveniences to secure 2026 government funding and staffing. The center will mark the first such facility at a regional airport outside Incheon International Airport's two locations.

Mayor Park Hyung-joon called the move a step toward correcting capital-centric administration and promoting regional balance. "Citizens' inconveniences will be dramatically reduced once they can get emergency passports right at the airport," he said. "The city will continue expanding tangible benefits for residents."
