[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 지난 19일부터 29일까지 벡스코에서 열린 '제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회'를 성공적으로 마무리하고, 부산선언 채택과 1천3백억 원대의 경제적 파급효과를 거두는 등 글로벌 국제회의 개최도시로서의 역량을 입증했다고 밝혔다.

이번 위원회는 대한민국이 1988년 세계유산협약에 가입한 지 38년 만에 처음으로 국내에서 열린 행사로, 유네스코 관계자와 21개 위원국을 포함해 전 세계 162개국에서 3천140여 명의 전문가와 대표단이 참가했다. 시는 국가유산청, 경찰, 소방 등 유관기관과 함께 종합 안전관리체계를 구축해 총 13만 7천여 명의 관람객이 안전하게 행사를 참관할 수 있도록 지원했다.

행사는 시민 자원봉사단, 피란수도 부산 글로벌 서포터즈, 어린이 기자단 '꼬부기단' 등이 온·오프라인 현장에서 활동하며 시민과 함께 만든 국제회의로 치러졌다. 25일과 26일에는 조선통신사 행렬과 승선 체험을 통해 세계기록유산의 가치를 알렸고, '피란수도 부산 국가유산 야행', 세계유산 교육, 학술대회 등을 다채롭게 열어 피란수도 부산의 역사적 의미를 널리 알렸다.

전시 및 관광 프로그램도 성황을 이뤘다. 케이(K)-헤리티지 대한민국관에는 13만 7천여 명이 방문했으며, 이 중 부산관 관람객은 4만 2천여 명을 기록했다.

외국인 대상 세계유산 필드트립 등 13개 프로그램이 큰 호응을 얻은 가운데 기념 한정판 '비짓부산 패스' 1천 매가 완판됐고, 지역 문화유산 상품 '고와예'는 1천4백여 만 원의 매출을 올렸다. 이에 따른 경제적 파급효과는 총 1천372억 원에 달할 것으로 추산된다. 아울러 시 공식 SNS와 유튜브 현장 영상 14편은 누적 조회수 약 158만 회를 기록하며 높은 관심을 모았다.

글로벌 협력 체계 구축 측면에서도 주요 성과가 잇따랐다. 위원회는 20일 기후변화 등 글로벌 위기에 대응하기 위한 '세계유산에 관한 부산선언(Busan Declaration on World Heritage)'을 공식 채택하며 '협력'을 협약의 새로운 전략목표로 선언했다. 같은 날 전재수 부산시장은 칼레드 엘아나니 유네스코 사무총장을 접견해 미래 협력 방안을 논의했다.

이어 지난 23일 열린 시장 주재 환영만찬에는 라자르 엘룬두 아소모 유네스코 세계유산센터장, 이반 베르비츠키 우크라이나 문화부 제1차관, 허민 국가유산청장을 비롯해 17개 위원국 대표단 등 150여 명이 참석했다. 부산시는 이번 위원회의 성공적 개최를 발판 삼아 부산포럼, 유네스코 카테고리2센터 추진 등 세계유산 관련 후속 사업을 본격적으로 추진할 계획이다

BUSThe city of Busan successfully wrapped up the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, solidifying its position as a global convention hub by adopting the milestone "Busan Declaration" and generating an estimated 137.2 billion won ($100 million) in economic impact.

Held from July 19 to 29 at BEXCO, the gathering marked the first time South Korea hosted the prestigious international committee since ratifying the World Heritage Convention 38 years ago in 1988. The event brought together more than 3,140 delegates and experts from 162 countries, including 21 committee member states and top UNESCO leadership. Coupled with robust safety management protocols coordinated alongside police and fire authorities, the conference welcomed roughly 137,000 total visitors safely across its 11-day run.

The committee session was widely lauded as an inclusive civic international conference. Citizen volunteers, global youth ambassadors, and an elementary student press corps actively supported venue operations, field trips, and public relations.

Accompanying cultural events—such as reenactments of the historic Joseon Tongsinsa peace diplomatic processions and academic forums on Busan's legacy as South Korea's wartime capital—offered participants and residents a deep look into the region's heritage.

Cultural exhibits and tourism programs experienced overwhelming demand. The "K-Heritage" Korea Pavilion drew 137,000 visitors, with 42,000 visiting the dedicated Busan Pavilion. All 1,000 limited-edition "Visit Busan Passes" created for the occasion sold out completely, and local heritage crafts generated over 14 million won in sales.

On digital platforms, 14 official event highlight videos accumulated nearly 1.58 million views and 50,000 user interactions.

Significant international policy breakthroughs were achieved during the session. On July 20, the World Heritage Committee officially adopted the "Busan Declaration on World Heritage," establishing "Collaboration" as a vital strategic objective to combat global threats like climate change. The same day, Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo met with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany to discuss long-term partnership strategies.

On July 23, Mayor Jeon hosted a welcome banquet for 150 international dignitaries, including Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Ivan Verbytskyi, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine, and Heo Min, Administrator of the Korea Heritage Service. Moving forward, Busan plans to build on the momentum by launching a global "Busan Forum" and pursuing the establishment of a UNESCO Category 2 Centre.
