[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국립부경대학교와 국립한국해양대학교가 해양수산 과학기술 분야의 핵심 인재를 양성하기 위해 대학원 공동학위과정을 본격 운영하기로 했다.

양 대학은 올해 2학기부터 부경대 기계시스템공학과와 한국해양대 기관공학과·기관시스템공학과를 공동학위 운영학과로 선정하고 교육을 시작했다. 이번 과정을 통해 해당 학과 대학원생들은 양 대학의 석·박사 학위를 동시에 취득할 수 있게 됐다.

첨단조선 핵심 분야인 기계시스템과 기관 분야를 시작으로 문을 연 이번 공동학위과정은, 향후 양 대학의 우수한 교육 및 연구 역량을 유기적으로 연계해 운영 학과를 단계적으로 확대해 나갈 방침이다.

특히 오는 2027년에는 해양수산부 등 현직 해양수산 전문인력과 정책 현장의 수요를 적극 반영한 맞춤형 교육과정을 개발해 운영할 예정이다. 해양수산 정책과 과학기술을 접목한 실무 중심의 교육을 통해 현직자들의 전문성을 높이고, 국가 해양수산 정책 추진 역량을 한층 강화하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

양 대학은 이번 석·박사 공동학위과정 운영을 계기로 공동 연구와 교육, 활발한 인적 교류를 지속적으로 넓혀가며 해양수산 분야를 선도할 미래 인재 양성과 국가 경쟁력 제고를 위해 긴밀한 협력을 이어가기로 했다.

Pukyong National University and Korea Maritime & Ocean University announced that they have launched joint graduate degree programs to foster specialized talent in marine and fisheries science and technology.

Beginning in the second semester of this year, the two universities designated the Department of Mechanical System Engineering at Pukyong National University, along with the Department of Marine Engineering and the Department of Marine Systems Engineering at Korea Maritime & Ocean University, as joint degree-operating departments. Through this initiative, graduate students enrolled in these programs will be able to receive master's and doctoral degrees from both universities simultaneously.

Starting with the core advanced shipbuilding fields of mechanical and marine systems, the universities plan to progressively expand the joint degree departments by integrating the educational and research capabilities of both institutions.

In particular, the universities plan to develop and launch customized curricula by 2027 that reflect educational demand surveys conducted among officials from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and other field practitioners. By combining marine fisheries policy with science and technology through practical, hands-on education, the programs aim to enhance the expertise of current maritime professionals and strengthen national capabilities in driving marine and fisheries policies.

Building on the launch of these joint degree programs, the two universities intend to continuously expand collaborative research, education, and personnel exchanges, further strengthening cooperation to foster future leaders in the marine and fisheries sector and boost national competitiveness.
