[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 세계 최대 규모의 도서관·정보 분야 국제 학술회의인 '2026 부산세계도서관정보대회(IFLA WLIC 2026 Busan)'가 오는 10일부터 13일까지 부산 벡스코에서 개최된다.

국제도서관협회연맹(IFLA)이 주최하고 '2026 부산 WLIC 국가위원회'가 주관하는 이번 대회는 전 세계 120여 개국에서 3천3백여 명의 도서관·정보 분야 전문가와 연구자, 기업 관계자가 참석한다. 전체 참가자의 절반 이상이 해외 참가자로 구성되어 부산의 높아진 국제적 위상과 도시 경쟁력을 널리 알릴 전망이다.

올해 대회는 '변화를 이끄는 도서관(Libraries Powering Transformation)'을 주제로 180여 개의 전문 강연과 학술 세션이 진행된다. 위성회의, 개·폐회식, 국제 전시회, 포스터 세션, 엑스포 파빌리온, 문화의 밤, 도서관 방문, 지역 관광 프로그램 등 다양한 부대행사도 함께 마련된다.

대회 전후로는 부산도서관, 부산시민도서관, 도모헌 등 부산 6개 및 서울 4개 기관에서 'AI, 문화유산 보존, 정보활용능력' 등을 주제로 총 12개의 위성회의가 열린다.

벡스코 제1전시장에서는 전 세계 45개 업체 및 기관이 참여하는 76개 부스 규모의 국제 전시회가 개최되며, 국내 30여 개 도서관의 혁신 사례를 소개하는 '도서관 홍보 거리'와 케이-푸드, 케이-콘텐츠 및 부산홍보관이 들어서는 '케이-컬처 존', 글로벌 신기술 시연장인 '엑스포 파빌리온'이 조성된다.

참가자와 시민이 함께하는 문화 교류 프로그램도 다채롭게 펼쳐진다. 11일 오후 6시 영화의전당 야외극장에서는 국립부산국악원 사물놀이·장구춤, 재즈공연, 저스트절크 댄스 공연, DJ 공연 등이 어우러진 '문화의 밤' 행사가 진행된다.

대회 마지막 날인 13일에는 부산 지역 33개 공공도서관을 11개 코스로 나누어 둘러보는 도서관 방문 프로그램이 운용된다.

민락수변공원 일원에서는 11일부터 13일까지 '바다도서관 팝업'이 운영되어 바다를 배경으로 한 독서 체험을 제공한다. 부산도서관에서는 '한국의 유교책판과 민화' 특별전과 8일 국악 크로스오버 공연 '이음'이 열리며, 부산 지역 공공도서관 전역에서 테마 책 추천 및 독서 퀴즈 프로그램이 진행된다.

부산시는 이번 대회를 계기로 국제도서관협회연맹(IFLA), 미국도서관협회(ALA)와 도서관 분야 국제협력 강화를 위한 3자 업무협약(MOU)을 체결한다. 아울러 부산도서관에서는 중국 선전도서관, 대만 국립중앙도서관과의 도서 기증식과 대만 국립공공정보도서관과의 업무협약 체결식을 진행해 지속 가능한 글로벌 협력 네트워크를 확대할 계획이다.

The 2026 IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC 2026 Busan), the world's largest international academic conference in the library and information sector, will open at 

BEXCO in Busan on August 10 and run for four days through August 13.

Hosted by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and organized by the 2026 Busan WLIC National Committee, the event will gather approximately 3,300 library and information experts, researchers, and industry leaders from over 120 countries. With more than half of the attendees coming from overseas, the congress is expected to highlight Busan's rising international status and global competitiveness.

Under the theme "Libraries Powering Transformation," this year's congress will feature around 180 professional lectures and academic sessions. A wide range of side events will also take place, including satellite meetings, opening and closing ceremonies, an international exhibition, poster sessions, an expo pavilion, a cultural evening, library visits, and local tourism programs.

Before and after the main congress, 12 satellite meetings covering topics such as AI, cultural heritage preservation, and information literacy will be held across 10 institutions, including 6 in Busan (such as Busan Library, Busan Citizens Library, and Domoheon) and 4 in Seoul. At BEXCO Exhibition Center 1, an international exhibition featuring 76 booths from 45 global companies and organizations will be hosted alongside "Library Boulevard," showcasing innovative practices from over 30 domestic libraries. 

Additionally, a "K-Culture Zone" featuring K-food, K-content, and a Busan promotional pavilion, as well as an "Expo Pavilion" showcasing new technologies from global enterprises, will be operated.

Diverse cultural exchange programs involving both participants and citizens will also be held. On August 11 at 6:00 PM, the "Cultural Evening" will take place at the Busan Cinema Center outdoor theater, showcasing dynamic K-culture performances including samulnori and janggu dance by the National Busan Gugak Center, jazz music, a dance show by Just Jerk, and a DJ performance. On the final day, August 13, a library visit program will guide attendees through 33 public libraries across Busan along 11 designated routes.

From August 11 to 13, the "Sea Library Pop-up" will be operated around Millak Waterfront Park, offering a unique reading experience against the backdrop of the ocean. Busan Library will host a special exhibition titled "Korean Confucian Woodblocks and Minhwa" as well as a Korean traditional crossover concert titled "IEUM" on August 8. Public libraries across Busan will also participate by running theme-based book curation and reading quizzes.

Taking advantage of this global event, the City of Busan will sign a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IFLA and the American Library Association (ALA) to strengthen international cooperation in the library field. Furthermore, Busan Library will host book donation ceremonies with Shenzhen Library in China and the National Central Library (NCL) of Taiwan, along with an MOU signing ceremony with the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) of Taiwan, aiming to expand sustainable global partnership networks.
