[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시립미술관이 오는 23일부터 10월 7일까지 중국 베이징 금일미술관(Today Art Museum)에서 《젊은 시각 새로운 시선》 해외전을 개최한다.

이번 전시는 부산시립미술관과 금일미술관이 처음으로 공동 개최하는 '부산 기반 청년 작가 글로벌 프로젝트'로, 부산에서 활동하는 청년 작가들의 작품세계를 중국 현지에 소개하고 동시대 미술에 대한 국제적 담론을 확대하기 위해 마련됐다.

부산시립미술관은 동시대 미술을 생산적으로 논의할 수 있는 해외 거점으로 동아시아에 주목해 왔으며, 이번 전시를 통해 부산과 베이징이 공유하는 동시대성을 함께 살펴보고 문화적·비평적 맥락 속에서 작품이 새롭게 해석될 가능성을 모색한다는 계획이다.

공동 주최 기관인 금일미술관은 동시대 미술 분야에서 실험적인 전시 기획과 국제 협력을 꾸준히 이어온 중국의 대표적인 비영리 사립미술관으로, 이번 협업을 통해 국제 교류와 미술 담론 확장의 의미를 더할 것으로 기대된다.

《젊은 시각 새로운 시선》은 부산시립미술관이 1999년부터 지역 작가들의 지속 가능한 창작 활동을 지원하기 위해 추진해 온 대표 전시 프로그램이다. 미술관은 2025년 공모를 통해 선정된 8명의 작가를 대상으로 국내외 전시와 국제 네트워크 구축 등 2~3년에 걸친 단계별 지원 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.

국내 전시는 지난해 서울 성곡미술관에서 열렸으며, 올해는 중국 베이징 금일미술관에서 해외전을 개최해 부산 작가들의 작품세계를 해외 관객들에게 선보인다.

이번 전시는 회화와 설치, 영상 등 다양한 매체를 통해 이미지와 물질, 신체와 환경의 관계를 탐구하는 동시대 미술 작품들을 소개한다. 참여 작가는 강이경, 김미래, 김재원, 김태성, 박지혜, 박현성, 유장우, 유하나 등 부산 출신 또는 부산을 기반으로 활동하는 8명이다.

작가들은 각자의 작업을 통해 동아시아 도시들이 경험한 압축적 현대성의 흔적을 다양한 시각으로 풀어내며, 반복되는 영상 이미지와 구조와 틈을 탐색하는 설치작업, 회화의 물질성을 확장하는 실험 등을 통해 급속한 도시화와 산업화 속에서 형성된 동아시아 현대성을 조명한다.

부산시립미술관은 이번 전시를 계기로 금일미술관과의 국제 협력을 더욱 확대해 공동 연구와 학술 교류, 공동 기획전 등을 추진하며 지속 가능한 협력 체계를 구축해 나갈 방침이다. 또한 부산을 거점으로 활동하는 작가들이 국제 미술 현장과 직접 연결될 수 있는 플랫폼을 마련해 동아시아 미술 담론 형성에 지속적으로 참여할 수 있도록 지원할 계획이다.

서진석 부산시립미술관장은 "'젊은 시각 새로운 시선' 해외전은 부산에서 축적된 동시대 미술의 실천을 국제적인 담론 속에서 새롭게 읽어보자는 제안"이라며 "이번 전시가 부산과 베이징, 나아가 동아시아 미술기관 간 지속 가능한 협력의 출발점이 되기를 기대한다"고 말했다.

The Busan Museum of Art (BMA) will hold the international edition of 'Young Perspectives, New Visions' at Today Art Museum in Beijing, China, from August 23 to October 7, showcasing the work of emerging Busan-based artists on the global stage.

The exhibition marks the first collaboration between the Busan Museum of Art and Today Art Museum as part of the "Busan-Based Emerging Artists Global Project." It has been organized to introduce the artistic practices of Busan's emerging artists to Chinese audiences while fostering international dialogue on contemporary art.

The Busan Museum of Art has identified East Asia as a key region for expanding discussions on contemporary art. Through this exhibition, the museum aims to explore the shared experiences of Busan and Beijing as modern East Asian cities and examine how artworks can be reinterpreted within different cultural and critical contexts.

Today Art Museum, one of China's leading nonprofit contemporary art institutions, is widely recognized for its experimental exhibitions and commitment to international collaboration. The partnership reflects both institutions' shared goal of promoting cross-cultural exchange and expanding contemporary art discourse.

'Young Perspectives, New Visions' has been one of the Busan Museum of Art's flagship programs since 1999, supporting the sustainable development of regional artists. Under the 2025 open-call program, eight selected artists are participating in a multi-year initiative that includes domestic exhibitions, international showcases, and opportunities to build global professional networks over a two- to three-year period.

Following the domestic exhibition held at Sungkok Art Museum in Seoul in 2025, this year's presentation at Today Art Museum represents the program's international phase, introducing Busan's emerging artists to audiences in China.

The exhibition features paintings, installations, video works, and other media exploring the relationships between images, materials, the body, and the environment in contemporary society. Participating artists include Kang Yi-kyung, Kim Mi-rae, Kim Jae-won, Kim Tae-sung, Park Ji-hye, Park Hyun-sung, Yoo Jang-woo, and Yoo Ha-na, all of whom were either born in Busan or are actively based in the city.

Through their individual artistic practices, the eight artists present diverse interpretations of the compressed modernity experienced by East Asian cities. Their works examine themes of rapid urbanization and industrialization through repeated moving images, installations investigating structure and spatial gaps, and experimental approaches that expand the material possibilities of painting.

The Busan Museum of Art plans to build on this exhibition by expanding its partnership with Today Art Museum through joint research projects, academic exchanges, and future co-curated exhibitions, establishing a long-term framework for international cooperation.

The museum also intends to strengthen opportunities for Busan-based artists to engage directly with the global art community by creating platforms that connect them with international networks and encourage their participation in shaping contemporary East Asian art discourse.

"This international edition of 'Young Perspectives, New Visions' is an invitation to reinterpret the contemporary artistic practices developed in Busan within a broader international context," said Seo Jin-seok, Director of the Busan Museum of Art. "We hope this exhibition will become the starting point for sustainable cooperation between Busan and Beijing, and ultimately among art institutions throughout East Asia."
