Must See·Taste·Buy·Try로”…

Must See, Must Taste, Must Buy, Must Try

[Here is the English version of the article] Thailand Tourism Authority Steps Up Push to Attract Korean Travelers, Targeting Busan and Southeast Region...‘Amazing Thailand Roadshow to Korea 2026’ held in Busan

=Thailand promotes Krabi, Chiang Rai and other emerging destinations beyond Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai

=Airline partnerships, travel discounts and health-and-wellness tourism at the center of new marketing strategy

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is stepping up efforts to attract more Korean visitors by strengthening its marketing strategy in Busan, Gyeongsangnam-do and other parts of southeastern Korea.

Rather than focusing solely on well-known destinations such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai, the tourism authority is promoting emerging destinations including Krabi and Chiang Rai. It is also expanding health and wellness, golf, food, shopping and activity-based travel products to encourage both first-time and repeat visitors from Korea.

Siriges-anong Trairatana-songporn, who oversees East Asian tourism markets for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Wachirachai Sirisamphan, director of the TAT Seoul Office, discussed the importance of the Busan and southeastern Korean markets and Thailand’s strategy for attracting more visitors during an interview held on Sept. 3 at Lotte Hotel Busan.

The interview took place as part of the 'Amazing Thailand Roadshow to Korea 2026', which was held in Busan following an event in Seoul. The roadshow brought together Thai tourism businesses and Korean travel-industry representatives to expand business partnerships and introduce new travel products.

Busan and Southeast Korea Seen as Key Tourism Markets

TAT officials described Busan and the surrounding southeastern region as important markets for Thailand’s tourism industry.

Busan is South Korea’s second-largest city and has direct air connections to Thailand, making it an important gateway for travelers. In particular, direct flights between Busan and Bangkok and between Busan and Chiang Mai have helped support travel demand.

Travelers from Busan and the surrounding region include families, senior travelers, golfers and corporate incentive groups, according to TAT.

The tourism authority hopes the Busan roadshow will also provide an opportunity for Thai tourism companies to meet directly with local travel agencies, airlines and other tourism businesses and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

Wachirachai said the Busan and southeastern markets are particularly important for Thailand and that TAT plans to strengthen cooperation with local travel and airline companies while introducing new ways to experience Thailand.

Thailand Beyond Bangkok and Pattaya, Chiang Mai

One of TAT’s major goals is to diversify the destinations visited by Korean travelers.

Thailand has 77 provinces, but Korean tourists tend to concentrate their trips in a handful of major destinations, including Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

TAT wants to use those popular destinations as gateways to lesser-known areas. From Bangkok, travelers can easily visit Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Hua Hin. In central Thailand, destinations such as Khao Yai and Nakhon Ratchasima offer additional options.

In the north, Chiang Mai can serve as a base for trips to Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun and Mae Hong Son. In the south, travelers arriving in Phuket can continue on to Krabi, Phang Nga, Satun and Trang.

Among these destinations, TAT is placing particular emphasis this year on 'Krabi and Chiang Rai'.

Krabi can be reached relatively easily by road from Phuket, while Chiang Rai is accessible from Chiang Mai by car. TAT believes these destinations can be incorporated into itineraries that already include Thailand’s most popular tourist spots.

Improved Roads Make Regional Travel Easier

Recent improvements to Thailand’s highway and expressway network are also making it easier for tourists to explore areas outside the major cities.

The M7 motorway allows travelers to reach Pattaya from Bangkok in about 90 minutes. Khao Yai can be reached from Bangkok in roughly two hours using the M6 motorway.

The opening of the M81 motorway has also reduced travel times to Kanchanaburi, while Hua Hin can be reached from Bangkok in approximately two to two and a half hours.

Chiang Rai is also less than about three hours by road from Chiang Mai, making it a convenient addition to a northern Thailand itinerary.

TAT sees these transportation improvements as an opportunity to develop new travel packages that combine major tourist destinations with nearby cities and attractions.

Health and Wellness Tourism Becomes a Major Focus

Health and wellness tourism is another major focus of Thailand’s marketing strategy this year.

TAT is looking to move beyond Thailand’s traditional reputation for massages and spas by promoting more comprehensive wellness experiences centered on relaxation, health and rejuvenation.

Spa offerings are expanding to include newer experiences such as ice baths, while outdoor activities popular with Korean travelers—including hiking, trekking and jogging—are also being incorporated into wellness-oriented travel programs.

TAT officials said Thailand’s strength lies in its ability to offer a wide range of experiences for different types of travelers, from families and seniors to golfers and corporate groups.

The goal is to give travelers more opportunities to combine relaxation, wellness, food, shopping and activities during a single trip.

Airline Discounts Planned for the Winter Travel Season

TAT has adjusted its target for Korean visitor arrivals in light of international conditions and other external factors.

The tourism authority is now working toward a more realistic target of roughly '1.3 million Korean visitors' and is preparing promotional campaigns to stimulate travel through the end of the year.

For the winter travel season, TAT plans to work with airlines on discounted fares and other promotions for flights to Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

The authority also plans to maintain Thailand’s visibility in the Korean market through advertising, media outreach and cooperation with travel companies, even among consumers who are not planning an immediate trip.

From the “5F” Campaign to Must-See, Must-Taste, Must-Buy and Must-Try

TAT is also changing the way it markets Thailand to younger Korean travelers. In previous campaigns, the tourism authority promoted the so-called “5F” concept, highlighting themes such as food, fashion and festivals, fight.

The current strategy focuses instead on a series of “Must” experiences, including 'Must See, Must Taste, Must Buy and Must Try'.

The campaign encourages visitors to discover the things they should see, taste, buy and experience while traveling in Thailand.

TAT is also combining these themes with wellness, outdoor activities, sports and food experiences in an effort to appeal to younger travelers as well as visitors from different generations.

TAT Urges Korean Travelers to Check for Cannabis-Related Ingredients

TAT also emphasized the importance of traveler safety, particularly regarding food and beverages that may contain cannabis-related ingredients.

Korean travelers are advised to carefully check restaurant menus and signs before ordering food or drinks.

Because cannabis regulations are considerably stricter in South Korea, travelers should be especially cautious about unintentionally consuming products containing cannabis-related ingredients while in Thailand.

TAT officials said travelers should check for relevant notices or symbols at restaurants and cafes and carefully review menus before ordering.

The authority said it plans to continue providing information to Korean travelers so they can enjoy Thailand safely and responsibly.

“We Want Travelers from Busan and Southeast Korea to See a New Side of Thailand”

TAT officials said they hope Korean travelers, particularly those from Busan and the southeastern region, will look beyond Thailand’s traditional tourist destinations and discover new parts of the country.

Siriges-anong and Wachirachai expressed appreciation for the continued support from travelers and the tourism industry in Busan and the surrounding region, saying the strong demand from the area has also helped support direct air connections with Thailand.

Going forward, TAT plans to work more closely with travel agencies, airlines and other industry partners in the region to promote destinations such as Krabi and Chiang Rai as well as cities surrounding Thailand’s major tourist hubs.

The officials also said TAT would continue listening to travelers and responding quickly to problems or areas that need improvement.

The roadshow reflects a broader shift in Thailand’s strategy for the Korean market—from simply increasing visitor numbers to attracting repeat visitors and higher-value travelers.

By combining improved air and road connectivity with wellness, golf, food, shopping and outdoor activities, TAT hopes to broaden the appeal of Thailand and encourage travelers from Busan and the southeastern region to explore more of the country.
