[Here is the English version of the article] Busan International Film Festival Forum to Explore Human Creativity in the Age of AI =International academic forum to ask where humans stand as generative AI transforms creative work
The Busan International Film Festival’s Jiseok Film Institute will host an international academic forum with Dongseo University to examine the changing meaning of human creativity and the role of people in filmmaking and other creative fields in the age of generative artificial intelligence.
The forum, titled “New Creativity in the Age of AI: Questioning the Place of Humans,” will be held Oct. 8 at the Film Industry Center in Busan as part of the 31st Busan International Film Festival.
The event is being jointly organized by the Jiseok Film Institute and Dongseo University’s Stella Arts College, Graduate School of Visual Contents and Graduate School of Design.
The forum will bring together scholars and creators from different academic and production backgrounds to explore how AI is reshaping the creative process and what remains uniquely human in an increasingly automated environment.
Jaco Suominen, a professor in the Department of Digital Culture at the University of Turku in Finland, will contribute perspectives from digital culture studies.
Ren Changzhen, a former China Central Television documentary director and producer, will share his experience as the director of the internationally recognized documentary “A Bite of China.”
Yuki Morimoto, a professor specializing in media design at the Institute of Art and Design at Kyushu University, will examine the relationship between AI and creativity from a media-design perspective.
Kim Min-jung, CEO and director of AITONIA, will bring practical experience from AI filmmaking. Her representative works include the AI films “Chun” and “The Day We Saved the Fish.”
The four speakers, whose backgrounds span digital culture, media design, documentary filmmaking and AI film production, will discuss how creativity is changing in the age of AI and how the role of human creators is evolving.
Following the presentations, documentary director and writer Zhou Yijun, a former war correspondent for China’s Xinhua News Agency, and Lee Moo-young, a film director and professor in the Department of Film at Dongseo University’s Lim Kwon-taek College of Film and Performing Arts, will join the discussion.
Rather than treating AI simply as a tool for improving production efficiency, the forum will focus on how the technology is changing the nature of creative authorship, human perception and experience, as well as structures of dialogue and collaboration.
As AI becomes capable of carrying out an increasing number of creative tasks, the forum will shift the focus from what can be created to fundamental questions about who creates, why they create and what judgments guide the creative process.
By bringing together examples from AI filmmaking, media-design and digital-culture research, and documentary production, the forum aims to provide a broad discussion of the meaning of human creativity and the future of creative work.
The forum will be jointly hosted by Forum BIFF of the Busan International Film Festival and Dongseo University on Oct. 8 at the Film Industry Center.
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will take place from Oct. 6 to 15 at and around the Busan Cinema Center. <
