[Here is the English version of the article] Busan to Send Trade Mission to Caucasus to Diversify Export Markets
Busan will send a 10-company trade mission to Azerbaijan and Georgia in November to seek new buyers and expand export opportunities in the Caucasus, as the city looks to diversify overseas markets amid growing trade uncertainty and rising interest in Korean consumer products.
The “2026 Caucasus Consumer Goods Trade Mission” will visit Baku, Azerbaijan, and Tbilisi, Georgia, from Nov. 8 to 14, where participating companies will hold business meetings with local buyers and seek new trading partners, the Busan Metropolitan Government said Monday.
The mission is part of Busan’s efforts to help local companies find new overseas markets as global trade conditions continue to change. The city said it is also seeking to reduce companies’ reliance on existing export markets and broaden their customer base.
The Caucasus is gaining strategic importance as a trade corridor linking Europe and Asia. Georgia provides access to markets in the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States, while Azerbaijan offers opportunities to expand into neighboring markets including Türkiye, Georgia and the Middle East.
Interest in Korean products has also been growing in the region amid the spread of Korean dramas and K-pop. Busan expects opportunities to expand exports beyond cosmetics to food, household goods and other consumer products.
Busan said its exports have increased for six consecutive months and that it plans to identify promising emerging markets before demand develops further. The city will focus on finding new buyers in Azerbaijan and Georgia and expanding sales channels into surrounding markets.
The initiative comes as exporters face uncertainty from prolonged conflict in the Middle East, U.S. tariff policies and stronger protectionist measures in the European Union.
Companies interested in joining the trade mission can apply through Busan’s export platform by Sept. 28. Selected companies will receive support covering 50% of round-trip airfare, as well as local transportation and interpretation services needed for business meetings.
Kim Ki-hwan, head of Busan’s Digital Economy Office, said the city would continue expanding practical support to help local companies enter overseas markets and develop new sales channels.
“Amid rapidly changing and increasingly uncertain trade conditions, it is important to support local exporters as they explore new markets and connect with a wider range of global customers,” Kim said.
