[Here is the English version of the article] Busan’s F1963 Garden named one of Korea’s 30 most beautiful private gardens
F1963 Garden in Busan has been named one of the “30 Most Beautiful Private Gardens in Korea” for 2026, becoming the only private garden in the city to make the list.
The garden in Busan’s Suyeong district was selected by the Korea Forest Service from 194 private gardens across the country. The annual list highlights outstanding private gardens and the stories behind the people and organizations that have created and maintained them.
F1963 Garden was designated Busan’s first private garden in December 2024. It is located inside F1963, a cultural complex created by renovating a former wire factory operated by Kiswire, which was established in 1963.
The name F1963 combines the year the factory was built, 1963, with the first letter of “Factory.” The site preserves much of the original factory structure while incorporating gardens throughout the former industrial complex, creating a mix of industrial heritage and nature.
The garden includes several distinct spaces, including Sorigil, Moonlight Garden and Maple Garden, each reflecting the history and character of the site.
Sorigil is a bamboo-lined path inspired by the straight yet flexible characteristics of wire. Concrete from the old factory floor was reused along the walkway, preserving traces of the site's industrial past while creating a natural connection between the garden and the existing buildings.
Moonlight Garden was created by transforming a former wastewater treatment facility into an ecological garden. Lotus flowers, garden plants and a glass greenhouse now fill the space, giving new life to a former industrial facility.
Maple Garden provides a shaded place to relax beneath zelkova trees and enjoy the changing colors of the seasons in the middle of the city.
Busan plans to use the recognition of F1963 Garden to promote outstanding private gardens and expand garden culture across the city. It also plans to develop programs linking private gardens with public gardens, including Busan Nakdonggang Garden, giving residents more opportunities to experience different gardens close to home.
