[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 동아대학교의 인공지능(AI) 중심대학 선정을 계기로 지역 산업의 AI 전환을 이끌 전문·융합 인재 양성 기반을 강화한다.

 

부산시는 과학기술정보통신부가 주관하는 ‘2026년 인공지능(AI)중심대학’ 공모사업에 동아대학교가 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

 

AI중심대학 사업은 대학의 교육체계를 AI 중심으로 전환해 AI 전문인재와 다양한 산업 분야의 AI 융합인재를 양성하고, 지역 산업의 인공지능 전환(AX)을 촉진하기 위한 국가 공모사업이다.

 

부산시는 동아대와 함께 2026년부터 2033년까지 8년간 국비 212억원을 포함해 총 252억원을 투입해 ‘동남권 특화산업의 피지컬 인공지능 전환(Physical AX)을 선도하는 실증형 AI중심대학’을 조성할 계획이다.

 

동아대는 그동안 ‘소프트웨어(SW)중심대학’ 사업을 통해 축적한 AI·SW 교육 기반과 산학협력 성과를 바탕으로 이번 공모에 선정됐다. 이를 계기로 기존 SW 중심의 인재 양성에서 벗어나 산업 현장 실증과 취·창업, 지역 정착까지 연계하는 AI 중심 인재 양성으로 사업 영역을 확대한다.

 

동아대는 먼저 기존 SW 중심의 교육체계를 AI 중심으로 전면 개편하고 전공 및 융합교육부터 대학원 과정까지 연계한 AI 전문·융합인재 양성체계를 구축한다.

 

이를 위해 SW대학을 AI대학으로 개편하고 ‘AX융합대학’과 대학원 ‘AI융합학과’를 신설한다. 또 전교생을 대상으로 AI 기초교육인 ‘모두의 AI’를 운영하고, 학부와 석사과정을 통합·연계한 ‘AI·AX 학·석사 통합·연계과정(FastTrack)’도 운영할 예정이다.

 

부산과 동남권의 주요 산업과 연계한 현장 중심의 피지컬 AI 전환 실증교육도 확대한다.

 

제조·에너지, 휴먼케어, 해양·항만·조선 등 지역 특화산업을 중심으로 AI 기술을 기업 현장에 단계적으로 적용하고 사업화 가능성을 검증한다. 산학협력 프로젝트와 장기 인턴십 등을 통해 학생들이 실제 기업 현장에서 실무 경험을 쌓을 수 있도록 지원하고, 지역기업 취업과 창업, 지역 정착으로 이어지는 연계체계를 구축한다.

 

부산시는 이번 사업 선정을 계기로 기존 SW중심대학을 통해 구축한 지역 AI·SW 인재양성 기반을 AI·AX 중심으로 고도화할 방침이다. 대학과 기업 간 협력을 강화해 지역 주력산업의 AI 전환을 지원하는 동시에 우수 인재가 지역에서 취업하고 창업해 정착할 수 있는 선순환 생태계를 구축한다는 계획이다.

 

전재수 부산시장은 “이번 선정은 그동안 SW중심대학을 통해 축적해 온 지역의 AI·SW 교육 기반을 한 단계 더 발전시켜 AI 중심의 교육과 산업혁신 체계로 전환하는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “대학에서 양성한 AI 인재가 지역기업의 AI 전환을 이끌고 부산에서 취업·창업하고 정착하는 선순환 생태계를 구축할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

Busan is strengthening its foundation for training artificial intelligence talent as Dong-A University has been selected for a national program aimed at fostering AI specialists and accelerating the adoption of AI across the region’s key industries.

 

The Busan Metropolitan Government said Dong-A University was selected as a 2026 AI-Centered University under a competition organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

 

The AI-Centered University program is designed to transform university education around artificial intelligence, train both AI specialists and interdisciplinary talent, and promote the adoption of AI technologies across regional industries.

 

Busan City and Dong-A University will invest a total of 25.2 billion won, including 21.2 billion won in national funding, over eight years from 2026 to 2033 to establish an AI-centered university focused on applying physical AI technologies to key industries in the southeastern region.

 

Dong-A University was selected based on its educational infrastructure and industry-academic cooperation experience accumulated through the government’s Software-Centered University program. The new initiative will expand the university’s focus beyond SW education to include field-based AI applications, employment, entrepreneurship and regional settlement.

 

The university plans to overhaul its existing software-centered education system and establish an AI-focused training system spanning undergraduate majors, interdisciplinary programs and graduate studies.

 

As part of the restructuring, its College of Software will be reorganized into an AI-focused college, while an AX Convergence College and a graduate-level AI Convergence Department will be established.

 

All students will also receive basic AI education through a program called “AI for Everyone,” while an integrated bachelor’s and master’s FastTrack program in AI and AX will provide students with an accelerated pathway to advanced study.

 

The university will also expand hands-on education focused on “physical AX,” or the application of AI technologies to real-world industrial settings, in cooperation with industries in Busan and the wider southeastern region.

 

The program will focus on major regional industries, including manufacturing and energy, human care, and marine, port and shipbuilding sectors. AI technologies will be gradually applied at company sites to assess their potential for commercialization.

 

Industry-academic projects and long-term internships will also give students practical experience in the workplace and help connect their education with employment and startup opportunities at local companies, as well as long-term settlement in the region.

 

Busan City said it plans to further develop the regional AI and software talent pipeline established through the Software-Centered University program and shift it toward AI and AX. The city also plans to strengthen cooperation between universities and businesses to support the AI transformation of key regional industries and encourage talented graduates to build careers and businesses in Busan.

 

Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo said the selection would provide an opportunity to advance the city’s existing AI and software education foundation and move toward an AI-centered system of education and industrial innovation.

 

“We will actively support the creation of a virtuous cycle in which AI talent trained at universities drives the AI transformation of local companies and goes on to find jobs, launch businesses and build careers in Busan,” Jeon said.
