[Here is the English version of the article] Busan to Hire 471 Middle and High School Teachers for 2027 School Year
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education said Monday it plans to hire 471 teachers for national, public and private middle and high schools for the 2027 school year.
The positions include 3 teachers for national schools, 356 for public schools and 112 for private schools, the education office said in its annual teacher recruitment plan released Monday.
Applications for the public and private school positions will be accepted online from 9 a.m. Oct. 12 through 6 p.m. Oct. 16.
The 356 public school positions are the same as the number announced in August. The figure reflects the Education Ministry’s teacher staffing policies as well as expected retirements and early retirements, the education office said.
The public school positions cover 30 subjects and fields, including 289 secondary school teachers, 20 health teachers for kindergartens and elementary schools and secondary schools, six librarians, 16 school counselors, seven nutrition teachers and 18 special education teachers for secondary schools.
The number of public school openings is down by 234 from last year, when 590 positions were offered.
Busan Maritime High School will recruit three navigation teachers for a national school, with the Busan education office administering the first and part of the second-stage examinations on behalf of the school.
For private schools, the education office will administer the first and part of the second-stage examinations on behalf of 42 school foundations. A total of 112 teachers will be hired in 20 subjects.
Nineteen of the participating private school foundations have opted into a system allowing applicants to apply simultaneously to public and private schools.
Under the system, candidates who apply to a public school as their first choice can also apply to participating private school foundations as their second choice. The program was introduced in 2017 to help address difficulties private schools face in recruiting teachers and to give applicants more options.
The first-stage examination is scheduled for Nov. 28, with successful candidates to be announced Dec. 29. Practical examinations will be held Jan. 14, followed by the second-stage examinations from Jan. 20-21. Final results are scheduled to be announced Feb. 5.
The first-stage examination will cover education theory and the candidate’s major subject. The second stage will include, depending on the subject, lesson-plan writing, teaching demonstrations and in-depth interviews assessing candidates’ suitability for the teaching profession.
Candidates for physical education, music, art, information and computer studies, electronics and mechanical subjects will also take separate practical examinations.
Applications and detailed information about the recruitment process are available on the national online teacher recruitment website and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education’s website.
