[Below is the English version with the Korean source] Busan Ruling Party's Post-Meeting Attacks Call Sincerity of Bipartisanship Into Question

The sincerity of a ruling party official's call for bipartisan cooperation in Busan came under fire after he launched a harsh critique against the city's mayor immediately following a joint consultative meeting.

Lee Sung-kwan, the Busan chapter leader of the People Power Party, dismissed Mayor Jeon Jae-soo's explanations during a recently held ruling-opposition-government meeting as self-praise and hollow rhetoric. Although the meeting was convened at Lee's own suggestion, the sudden shift to political attacks once the session concluded drew sharp criticism from local observers.

The two sides clashed sharply over the construction method for the Gadeokdo New Airport. While the People Power Party demanded revisions to the total project cost management guidelines or the Enforcement Decree of the State Contracts Act, Mayor Jeon advocated for amending the Gadeokdo New Airport Special Act out of concern for potential impacts on other national projects. Although both sides shared the same ultimate goal, Lee unilaterally branded the mayor's stance as favoring the central government.

Similar friction emerged over the relocation of the Korea Development Bank and the attraction of a consolidated low-cost carrier headquarters to Busan. While the mayor's camp emphasized that continuous efforts were being made behind the scenes, the city party chapter dismissed ongoing negotiations as inaction. Major long-term development projects that will shape Busan's future for decades, such as the Sajik Baseball Stadium redevelopment and the North Port multipurpose dome arena, were similarly reduced to tools for political strife rather than subjects of deep, bipartisan deliberation.

Observers noted that the recurring pattern of clasping hands inside the meeting room while professing that Busan's development transcends party lines, only to mock the opposition the moment they turn around, undermines public trust. Civic groups emphasized that if the ruling party genuinely wishes to help Busan, it must prove its commitment through actions rather than empty words.

Meanwhile, Lee Sung-kwan, the Busan chapter chairman of the People Power Party, criticized Mayor Jeon for engaging in substance-free self-praise regarding key Busan issues via his social media following a recent ruling party-opposition-government meeting.

He criticized the mayor for waiting for government proposals or resting on passive logic regarding core issues such as the port authority integration and the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport. He particularly took issue with the mayor's insistence on a special law rather than revising government guidelines for the Gadeokdo New Airport project cost issue, describing it as little more than acting as a spokesperson for the administration.

He also sharpened his criticism over the relocation of the Korea Development Bank, the attraction of the integrated LCC headquarters, and the Sajik Baseball Stadium reconstruction project, noting that the mayor kept reversing promises made to citizens without concrete measures. Chairman Lee warned that while the opposition party is always ready to cooperate for the sake of Busan, Mayor Jeon's empty attitude risks turning his words into an all-talk-no-action spectacle.
