브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 윤석열 대통령에게 계엄 선포를 권유한 인물이 김용현 국방장관이라는 외신 보도가 나왔다. 

3일(현지시각) 워싱턴포스트(WP) 보도에 따르면 이 매체는 익명의 고위 미국 당국자 말을 인용해 "계엄 선포 전 각료회의에서 김용현 장관이 윤석열 대통령에게 (계엄 선포를) 권유했다"고 밝혔다.

이 당국자는 이어 "한국의 안보 장관도 이런 움직임을 지지했다"라고 설명했는데, '안보 장관'이 정확히 누구를 지칭한 것인지는 언급되지 않았다.

다만 대통령에 계엄을 건의할 수 있는 사람은 이상민 행안부 장관과 김용현 국방장관 두명밖에 없다는 점에서 이상민 장관을 지칭한 것으로 추정된다. 

이와 관련 육군 대장 출신인 김병주 더불어민주당 의원은 4일 ‘CBS 2시 라이브’와의 인터뷰에서 "계엄을 건의할 수 있는 사람은 행안부 장관과 국방부 장관 두 명인데 모두 충암고 출신"이라며 "윤석열 대통령이나 김용현의 성품으로 봐서는 충분히 일어날 가능성을 예고한 것"이라고 설명했다.

정부는 계엄 선포 전 국무회의 참석자 명단을 현재 공개하지 않고 있으나, 한덕수 국무총리를 비롯한 일부 부처 장관들이 회의에 참석한 것으로 알려져 있다.

WP는 "계엄 건의가 나오자 일부 외교·재무 각료들 중에는 반대하는 사람들도 있었다"고 보도했으나, 누가 반대했는지 구체적으로 언급하진 않았다.
