가정연합은 일부 언론이 특검 수사 착수도 되지 않은 시점에서 마치 특정 인사 소환이 기정사실인 것처럼 보도하고, 익명에 기대어 악의적으로 조직 전체의 이미지를 실추시키려 한다고 주장했다. 이어, 청탁 의혹이라고 제기된 사안들은 대부분 “사실관계 왜곡 또는 맥락 무시에서 비롯된 억측에 불과하다”고 강조했다.
