[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 미래형 교통수단인 자율주행버스의 본격적인 상용화를 앞두고 10일 오전 11시 동해선 오시리아역 광장에서 개통식을 열었다.

이번 행사는 오는 9월부터 오시리아 관광단지 일원에서 정식으로 운행을 시작하는 자율주행버스를 시민들에게 공식적으로 알리기 위한 자리로 마련됐다.

이날 행사에는 박형준 부산시장을 비롯해 시의원 등 관계 인사와 시민 약 50여 명이 참석했다. 개통식은 자율주행버스 홍보영상 상영과 추진 경과보고, 주요 내빈 인사, 제막식, 기념촬영, 시승 행사 순으로 진행됐다.

부산시는 이번 자율주행버스 운행을 통해 시민들이 일상 속에서 인공지능(AI) 기반 대중교통 서비스를 직접 체험할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

해당 버스는 일반 차량과 동일한 도로를 공유하는 ‘혼재 운행’ 방식으로 운영되며, 자율주행 레벨 3 기준을 적용받는다. 레벨 3는 고속도로나 특정 조건에서 운전자의 개입 없이 차량이 주행할 수 있는 조건부 자동화 단계로, 시험운전자가 탑승해 시스템 요청 시 수동으로 개입하게 된다.

시범 운행은 8월까지 오시리아 관광단지 일원에서 이뤄지며, 일반 시민을 대상으로 한 정식 탑승 서비스는 9월부터 시작될 예정이다.

박형준 부산시장은 이날 개통식에서 “부산 최초의 자율주행버스 도입은 AI 교통체계의 실질적 시작을 알리는 이정표”라며, “AI는 시민 삶의 질을 향상시키고 도시 경쟁력을 높이는 핵심 동력으로, 부산의 산업, 경제, 문화, 행정, 교육 전반에 걸쳐 AI 기반 혁신을 확산시켜 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
