[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 15일(현지시간) 프랑스 파리 유네스코 본부에서 열린 제47차 유네스코 세계유산위원회에서 제48차(2026년) 세계유산위원회 개최 도시로 부산이 최종 선정됐다. 

 

이번 결정은 대한민국이 1988년 유네스코 '세계유산협약'에 가입한 이후, 세계유산위원회를 최초로 유치한 사례로, 부산이 그 첫 도시로 선정됐다는 점에서 역사적인 의미를 지닌다.

 

세계유산위원회, 세계유산 등재 및 보호를 총괄하는 최고 의사결정기구

‘유네스코 세계유산위원회(WHC: World Heritage Committee)’는 1972년 채택된 「세계유산협약」에 따라 설립된 국제기구로, 세계유산의 등재, 보존 및 보호를 위한 최고 의사결정권을 가진 핵심 위원회다. 한국은 지난 1997년 처음 위원국을 수임한 이래 네 차례 위원국으로 참여했으나, 위원회를 개최하는 것은 이번이 처음이다.

이날 함께 상영된 홍보영상에서는 ▲‘피란수도 부산유산’을 중심으로 한 한국의 세계유산 소개 ▲벡스코, 누리마루 APEC하우스 등 국제행사 유치 경험과 인프라 ▲광안대교, 해운대 등 부산의 대표적 관광명소가 인상적으로 소개돼 참가국들의 호응을 얻었다.

성공적 개최 위해 전방위 협업체계 본격 가동

부산시는 2026년 세계유산위원회를 성공적으로 개최하기 위해 ▲국가유산청을 중심으로 ▲부산관광공사 ▲벡스코 ▲부산문화재단 ▲부산연구원 등 유관기관과의 협업체계를 본격 가동할 방침이다. 특히, 부산만이 제공할 수 있는 특별 문화 프로그램과 참가국 맞춤형 콘텐츠를 통해 196개 협약국 대표단에게 깊은 인상을 남기는 행사로 만든다는 계획이다.
