[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 제30회를 맞은 부산국제영화제가 대표적인 관객 참여형 섹션인 ‘커뮤니티비프(Community BIFF)’를 통해 본격적인 축제의 막을 올린다.

 

커뮤니티비프는 16일(화) 전야제를 시작으로 18일(목)부터 21일(일)까지 4일간 진행되며, 영화와 춤, 음악, 문학, 과학기술이 어우러진 다채로운 프로그램으로 꾸려질 예정이다.

 

올해 전야제는 이날 저녁 7시, 부산 남포동 비프광장에서 열리며, 배우 이종혁과 박규리가 사회를 맡아 행사를 진행한다. 특히, 올해 ‘부산이 사랑하는 영화인’으로는 윤제균 감독과 배우 정우가 공동 선정돼 기념패를 수상하며, '영화감독 부산 중구 한달살기' 프로젝트에 참여한 감독 8인에게도 감사의 뜻이 담긴 기념패가 전달될 예정이다. 축하공연은 가수 바다가 맡아 영화제의 시작을 화려하게 장식한다.

 

올해 커뮤니티비프는 총 87편의 영화(장편 42편, 단편 45편)를 상영하며, 메가박스 부산극장, 부산가톨릭센터 공간101.1, 비프광장 등에서 상영작을 만날 수 있다. 매일 밤 7시 30분에는 1996년 부산국제영화제 출범을 기념하며, <첨밀밀>, <키즈 리턴>, <로미오와 줄리엣> 등 고전 명작들이 다시 스크린에 오른다.

 

주목할 만한 프로그램으로는 AI 기술을 통해 고(故) 구봉서와 서영춘을 재현한 <AI 코미디: 웃으면 복이 와요>, 한국영화의 황금기를 조명하는 <한국영화 화양연화>, <코리안 드림: 남아진흥 믹스테이프> 등이 있으며, 한예종 영상원 30주년을 기념한 국제 상영 및 토크 프로그램도 마련됐다.

 

비프광장 야외무대에서는 변영주 감독과 배우 고현정, 장동윤, 이엘, 조성하 등이 참여하는 야외 토크를 비롯해, 박상영 작가의 감성 토크쇼, 배우 정우와 신승호, 정수정 등이 참여하는 야외 프로그램이 관객과 소통할 예정이다. 아울러, 장재현 감독과 배우 박정민, 김남길, 하지원 등이 함께하는 무대인사와 정서경 작가와 김혜리 씨네21 편집위원의 북토크도 준비되어 있다.

 

관객 체험 프로그램 ‘커비로드’도 비프광장에서 펼쳐진다. 동서대학교 임권택영화예술대학의 시민 영화 촬영 체험존, AI 사진 제작 부스, 게임과 DIY 공예 체험, 전통 무예 및 레이저 전쟁 체험 등 다채로운 콘텐츠가 남포동 거리를 축제의 장으로 만든다.

 

축제의 마지막 날인 21일에는 커뮤니티비프의 대미를 장식하는 ‘남포피날레’가 열린다. 시민영화퀴즈대회, 관객 시상식, 다양한 참여 이벤트와 함께 부산 출신 글로벌 밴드 ‘세이수미’의 공연으로 흥겨운 마무리를 장식할 예정이다.

 

한편, 해운대 영화의전당에서도 커뮤니티비프 관련 프로그램이 이어진다. 세계적 바리스타들이 소개하는 스페셜티 커피 이야기, CJ ENM과 한예종이 공동 제작한 <프로젝트 30>의 감독 토크, 영화 퀴즈 골든벨, 영화인 애장품 경매 등 관객 참여 중심의 행사가 다채롭게 준비됐다.

Marking its 30th anniversary, the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) officially begins its celebration with Community BIFF, a signature audience-participation program. The festivities begin with a pre-opening ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, and continue from Thursday, September 18 to Sunday, September 21, featuring a wide array of programs that blend film, music, literature, dance, and science & technology.

 

The pre-opening ceremony will take place at 7 PM on September 16 at BIFF Square in Nampo-dong, Busan, hosted by actors Lee Jong-hyuk and Park Gyu-ri. This year, director Yoon Je-kyun and actor Jung Woo have been jointly selected as the "Filmmakers Loved by Busan," and will receive commemorative plaques along with eight directors who participated in the "One-Month Residency in Jung-gu, Busan" project. The ceremony will conclude with a celebratory performance by renowned Korean singer Bada.

 

A Festival Made with and for the Audience

This year's Community BIFF features a diverse and multi-dimensional lineup aimed at reflecting on the festival's legacy while imagining its future. A total of 87 films — 42 features and 45 shorts — will be screened at venues including Megabox Busan Theater, Catholic Center’s Space 101.1, and BIFF Square.

 

To celebrate the festival’s inaugural year in 1996, three classics — Comrades: Almost a Love Story, Kids Return, and Romeo + Juliet — will be screened every evening at 7:30 PM at BIFF Square, offering a nostalgic experience for longtime festivalgoers.

 

Daytime screenings offer a mix of humor and inspiration. Highlights include AI Comedy: Laughter Brings Blessings, which revives late comedians Gu Bong-seo and Seo Young-chun through AI technology; Golden Age of Korean Cinema; Korean Dream: Namajinheung Mixtape; and the [K-Arts Japan-Korea-China AMA+ Screening & Talk], celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Korea National University of Arts (K-Arts) School of Film.

 

Engaging Talk Events with Artists and Filmmakers

Community BIFF also features vibrant on-stage programs and open-air talk events. Director Byun Young-joo will join actors Ko Hyun-jung, Jang Dong-yoon, Lee El, and Jo Seong-ha for an outdoor talk session, while author Park Sang-young will host a unique emotional counseling talk show. Additional talks will include actor Jung Woo, director Oh Seong-ho, and actors Shin Seung-ho and Jung Soo-jung.

 

Other notable guests include director Jang Jae-hyun and actors Park Jung-min, Kim Nam-gil, Kim Jung-hyun, Kang Dong-won, Ha Ji-won, and director Lee Myung-se, who will appear at outdoor greetings. Writer Jeong Seo-kyeong and Cine21 editor Kim Hye-ri will also hold a book talk at the BNK Busan Bank Art Cinema’s 2nd floor lounge, creating a space for in-depth dialogue between film and literature.

 

Interactive Kirby Road & Festive Finale ‘Nampo Finale’

The festival’s closing event, Nampo Finale, will take place on Sunday, September 21, featuring an awards ceremony for audience-voted films, a movie trivia competition, interactive booths, and a live performance by internationally acclaimed Busan-based band Say Sue Me, promising an energetic wrap-up to the festivities.

 

The popular Kirby Road experience will return to BIFF Square with interactive booths open to all citizens. Activities include a citizen film shooting zone run by Dongseo University’s Im Kwon-taek College of Film & Arts, AI photo creation and games by the Busan Youth Community, DIY crafts, a traditional martial arts and laser combat zone, and an analog counseling booth by the Busan Social Welfare Council. These locally driven programs go beyond traditional film screenings, turning the heart of Nampo-dong into a festive playground.

 

Community BIFF at Busan Cinema Center

In addition to Nampo-dong, Community BIFF continues at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae during the festival’s later days. Daytime programs include talks with world-renowned baristas from Busan, a director talk on Project 30 — a collaborative film celebrating the 30th anniversary of CJ ENM and K-Arts — a movie quiz golden bell event, and a charity auction of film industry memorabilia. These programs aim to enhance audience engagement while connecting cinema with local culture and community.
