[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산대학교가 국내 대학 중 처음으로 인공지능(AI) 기반 통번역 안경을 교육·연구·행정 분야 전반에 시범 도입한다.

대학의 디지털 혁신 추진 사업인 ‘AX 대전환(Artificial Intelligence Transformation) 프로젝트’의 핵심 실증 과제로 추진되는 이번 사업은 첨단 AI 기술의 적용 효과를 다각도로 검증하기 위해 마련됐다.​

실시간 자막으로 외국어 번역

부산대가 도입한 ‘AI 통번역 안경’은 착용자가 시야 안에서 외국어 발언을 실시간으로 번역 자막으로 확인할 수 있는 스마트 글라스다. 강의, 회의, 세미나, 국제 교류 현장 등 외국어가 사용되는 상황에서 즉각적인 통역과 자막 제공이 가능하다.​

이 안경은 한국어·영어·일본어·중국어·스페인어·프랑스어 등 약 20개 언어를 98% 이상의 정확도로 지원하며, 향후 70개 언어까지 확대될 예정이다. 또한 최신 음성인식 및 자연어처리(NLP) 기술이 결합돼 기존 모바일 번역 앱보다 반응 속도와 정확성이 뛰어나다는 평가를 받았다.​

세계 최경량 AI 스마트안경 도입

이번에 도입되는 기기는 엑스퍼트아이엔씨㈜가 개발한 제품으로, 2025년 미국 라스베이거스에서 열린 CES에서 ‘세계에서 가장 가벼운 AI 스마트안경’으로 공개된 바 있다. 부산대는 지난 15일 AX선도위원회를 열고 이 스마트안경과 전용 통번역 앱을 우선 도입하기로 결정했다.​

외국인 유학생 상담·행정에도 확대

부산대는 교수진과 행정 부서, 대학원 강의실을 중심으로 우선 시범 운영하고, 시스템 효용성을 검토한 뒤 단계적으로 확대 보급할 계획이다. 특히 외국인 유학생 심리상담 등 언어 지원이 부족했던 영역에도 적용해 교육과 학생 지원 전반의 접근성을 강화할 방침이다.​

AI 윤리·신뢰성 검증체계 마련

대학은 한국능률협회컨설팅(KMAC)과 협력해 ‘AI 신뢰성·윤리성 검증체계(AI Reliability & Ethics Framework)’를 공동 설계 중이다. 이를 통해 교육, 행정, 데이터 분석 등 캠퍼스 전반의 AI 기술 활용이 윤리성과 공정성을 갖추도록 지원할 예정이다.​

“언어 장벽 없는 혁신 캠퍼스로”

최재원 부산대 총장은 “AI 안경 통번역 시스템은 단순한 기술 실험을 넘어 대학 교육의 접근성과 포용성을 확장하는 혁신의 출발점”이라며 “언어 장벽을 없애 전 세계 인재들이 부산대에서 마음껏 역량을 발휘할 수 있는 학문 환경을 구축하겠다”고 밝혔다.​

Pusan National University (President Choi Jae-won) has become the first university in Korea to introduce artificial intelligence-powered translation smart glasses for education, research, and administrative use. The initiative forms a central part of the university’s “AX Transformation” project, which aims to integrate advanced AI technologies throughout campus operations.

Real-time multilingual subtitles on campus

The newly introduced “AI Translation Glasses” allow users to view live subtitles for foreign-language speech directly in their field of vision. Designed for lectures, seminars, academic conferences, and administrative meetings, the device provides seamless communication across languages in real time.

The glasses currently support more than 20 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and French, with a translation accuracy rate exceeding 98 percent. The system will expand to 70 languages in future updates. By combining cutting-edge speech recognition and natural language processing technologies, the device outperforms existing mobile translation applications in both accuracy and response time.

World’s lightest AI smart glasses

Pusan National University has selected a model developed by Expert INC, which debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas as the world’s lightest AI-powered smart glasses.

On October 15, the university’s AX Leadership Committee approved a pilot launch of both the translation glasses and a companion mobile application to test their applicability across campus.

Expanding accessibility for international students

The university will conduct pilot trials in graduate classrooms, faculty meetings, and administrative offices before expanding the program. The system is expected to improve accessibility for international students, particularly in academic consulting, counseling, and administrative services—areas previously limited by language barriers.

Ethical AI framework under joint development

Pusan National University is also developing an “AI Reliability & Ethics Framework” in collaboration with the Korea Management Association Consulting (KMAC). The framework will ensure transparency and ethical implementation of AI technologies in education, research data analysis, and campus administration.

President Choi stated that the new AI translation glasses represent “more than a technological experiment—they are a milestone in building a more inclusive and accessible university.” He added, “By removing language barriers, we aim to create an academic environment where talented individuals from around the world can fully realize their potential at Pusan National University.”
