[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 3일 오후 부산 동구 부산역 광장에서 한 70대 남성이 몸에 인화성 물질을 뿌린 뒤 스스로 불을 붙여 사망했다. 경찰은 정확한 사망 경위를 조사 중이다.

동부경찰서에 따르면, 이날 오후 2시 25분경 부산역 광장에서 남성 A씨(70대)가 자신의 몸에 인화성 물질을 뿌린 뒤 불을 붙였다. 인근 시민이 소화기로 불을 껐으나, A씨는 현장에서 숨졌다.  

신고를 받고 출동한 경찰과 소방당국은 현장을 통제하고, 주변 CCTV 영상과 목격자 진술을 확보해 사건 경위를 파악하고 있다.  

경찰은 현재 A씨의 신원과 정확한 행적을 확인 중이며, 자살 가능성과 함께 외부 개입 여부도 배제하지 않고 수사하고 있다.  

사건 직후 유동 인구가 많은 광장 일대는 한때 현장 정리 작업으로 혼잡이 빚어졌으며, 경찰은 즉시 안전조치를 마치고 추가 피해 여부를 확인했다.  

[Here is the English news version of fact-based article] Elderly Man Dies After Setting Himself on Fire at Busan Station Plaza

An elderly man in his 70s died after setting himself on fire at Busan Station Plaza in Dong-gu, Busan, around 2:25 p.m. Monday. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.  

According to the Dongbu Police Station, the man identified only as Mr. A doused himself with a flammable liquid and set it alight. Nearby citizens used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.  

Police and fire authorities responded immediately after receiving an emergency report and cordoned off the area. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from around the plaza and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact cause and motive.  

The man’s identity verification is underway. A police official said they are “closely examining his activities leading up to the incident” and are considering both the possibility of suicide and any external involvement.  

The plaza, known for heavy pedestrian traffic, experienced brief confusion as startled citizens evacuated the area. Authorities have completed safety measures at the site and confirmed that no additional injuries occurred.
