[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국립부경대학교소속 연구자 32명이 글로벌 학술 출판사 엘스비어(Elsevier)와 미국 스탠퍼드대학교가 발표한 ‘2025년 세계 상위 2% 연구자’ 명단에 이름을 올렸다.

이 명단은 엘스비어와 스탠퍼드대가 논문 피인용도와 연구 영향력 등을 기준으로 세계 최대 색인·인용 데이터베이스 ‘스코퍼스(SCOPUS)’에 등록된 연구자를 분석해 매년 발표하는 것이다. 22개 주요 주제와 174개 세부 분야별로 최소 5편 이상의 논문을 발표한 연구자를 대상으로 평가한다.

부경대는 ‘생애업적(Career-long)’과 최근 1년간의 성과(2024년 기준 ‘Single-year’) 기준에 따라 중복 선정을 포함해 총 32명의 교원이 명단에 올랐다. 생애업적 부문에는 최재수, 정완영 등 17명이, 최근 1년 부문에는 Venkatesan Jayachandran, Khan Fazlurrahman 등 29명이 각각 선정됐다.

한편 대학알리미 2025년 8월 정보공시(2024년 기준) 결과, 부경대는 전국 25개 국립대(교대·체대·방통대 제외) 중 전임교원 1인당 연구비 1위를 기록하며 연구역량과 지원 성과를 인정받고 있다.

부경대 관계자는 “세계적 연구자로 선정된 것은 대학의 우수한 연구환경과 지원체계가 결실을 맺은 결과”라며 “앞으로도 글로벌 연구 경쟁력을 높이기 위해 지원을 이어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

-Elsevier and Stanford University evaluate global research influence based on citation impact

A total of 32 scholars from Pukyong National University (PKNU) have been included in the 2025 edition of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists,” a global researcher ranking jointly announced by Elsevier, a leading academic publisher, and Stanford University.  

The annual list identifies the top 2 percent of researchers worldwide whose work has the greatest citation impact, using data from Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and citation database. Researchers are evaluated across 22 major and 174 sub-disciplinary fields, based on a record of at least five published papers and their citation influence.  

This year, PKNU produced 32 researchers in total, with some appearing in both the “Career-long” and “Single-year (2024)” categories. In the Career-long category, 17 professors—including Choi Jae-soo, Jung Wan-young, Jeon Seong-jeup, Je Je-young, Seo Hyo-jin, and Venkatesan Jayachandran—were recognized for their sustained scholarly excellence.  

Meanwhile, 29 researchers were listed in the Single-year category for 2024, including those named above as well as Khan Fazlurrahman, Cheepu Muralimohan, and Surendhiran Duraiarasan, whose work made outstanding global impact over the past year.  

PKNU has also been recognized nationally for its strong research competitiveness. According to the government’s official university data disclosure platform “University Alimi,” the university ranked first among 25 national universities (excluding education, physical education, and cyber universities) in research funding per full-time faculty member as of August 2025.  

Through consistent research support and an expanding global presence, PKNU continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading research-oriented national university in Korea.
