[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산 동구의 한 귀금속상가에서 금목걸이를 훔친 뒤 흔적을 감춘 여성 피의자가 범행 7개월 만에 다른 지역 편의점에서 일하던 중 경찰관의 우연한 발견으로 붙잡혔다.

부산 동부경찰서는 금은방에서 금목걸이를 훔친 혐의로 A씨(50대·여)를 불구속 송치했다고 19일 밝혔다.

경찰에 따르면 A씨는 지난 4월 17일 오후 3시 50분경 부산 동구 범일동의 한 귀금속상가를 찾아 손님을 가장해 금목걸이를 건네받은 뒤, 점원이 잠시 한눈을 판 틈을 타 진열장에 있던 185만 원 상당의 금목걸이 1개를 지갑 아래에 숨겨 절취한 것으로 조사됐다.

직원은 물건 정리 과정에서 목걸이가 없어진 사실을 뒤늦게 확인하고 경찰에 신고했으나, A씨가 CCTV 사각지대인 인근 골목으로 사라지면서 신원 파악은 장기간 난관에 부딪혔다.

CCTV 분석과 동선 추적에도 별다른 진전이 없자, 동부경찰서는 내부 정보공유 시스템인 ‘스피드 수배’에 관련 인상착의 정보를 올려 전국 경찰관서에 공조를 요청했다.

실마리는 예상치 못한 곳에서 나왔다. 부산 강서경찰서 수사과 소속 신혜진 순경이 강서구의 한 편의점에서 근무 중인 직원이 수배 정보 속 용의자와 닮았다는 점을 눈여겨보고 동부경찰서에 제보한 것이다.

동부경찰서는 확인 작업에 나서 A씨와 용의자 인상착의, 범행 정황 등이 일치한다는 점을 확보하고 11월 4일 해당 편의점에서 A씨를 검거했다.

조사 과정에서 A씨는 범행 사실을 인정했다. 훔친 금목걸이는 피해자에게 가환부된 상태이며, 동부경찰서는 A씨를 절도 혐의로 불구속 수사 후 검찰에 송치했다.

경찰 관계자는 “수개월 간 신원을 특정하지 못했던 사건이었지만, 인상착의를 기억한 경찰관의 제보가 결정적 단서가 됐다”며 “CCTV 분석과 공조를 지속해 피의자를 검거했다”고 말했다.

A woman who vanished after stealing a gold necklace from a jewelry shop in Busan has been arrested seven months later, after a police officer recognized her while she was working at a convenience store in another district.

Busan Dongbu Police announced on the 19th that they have charged a woman in her 50s, identified as A, without detention for allegedly stealing a gold necklace from a jewelry store in April.

Suspect Identified by Chance After Months of No Leads

According to police, A entered a jewelry shop in Beomil-dong, Dong-gu, on April 17 around 3:50 p.m., posing as a customer and asking to see several necklaces. While the shop employee briefly looked away, A concealed a necklace worth 1.85 million won under her wallet and walked out.

The staff discovered the theft only later while sorting merchandise and reported the incident, but A had already slipped into a nearby alley with no CCTV coverage, leaving investigators with limited clues other than images from the shop’s security camera.

Police reviewed CCTV footage and attempted to trace her movements but were unable to determine her identity for months. They posted her description on the nationwide internal alert system known as “Speed Bulletin,” yet no significant progress followed.

Chance Encounter Leads to Breakthrough

The breakthrough came unexpectedly when Officer Shin Hye-jin of the Busan Gangseo Police Station noticed that a convenience store employee in Gangseo-gu resembled the woman seen in the internal alert. She contacted the investigating team, prompting Dongbu Police to reopen checks on the suspect’s appearance and behavior.

After confirming that the individual closely matched the suspect’s description and the circumstances of the theft, Dongbu Police arrested A at the convenience store on November 4.

During questioning, A admitted to the crime. The stolen necklace has since been returned to the jewelry store. The case has been forwarded to prosecutors with A charged without detention.

A Dongbu Police official said, “Despite several months without identifying the suspect, an officer who remembered the facial features played a decisive role. With her report and continued review of the case, we were able to confirm the suspect’s involvement and apprehend her.”
