[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산대학교 치과대학·치의학전문대학원 동문들이 학제 전환을 앞둔 모교를 위해 3억 원의 발전기금을 기탁했다.  

부산대는 치과대학·치의학전문대학원 동창회가 20일 대학본부 총장실에서 발전기금 3억 원을 출연했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 기금은 2026학년도부터 새로 선발되는 치의예과 학생들의 강의실 및 실험실습실 확충 등 교육환경 조성에 사용될 예정이다.  

부산대는 2028학년도 치과대학 체제 전환을 앞두고 2026학년도부터 매년 예과생 80명을 선발할 계획이다. 현재 치의학전문대학원은 본과 중심의 교육시설만 갖추고 있어 예과생을 위한 공간이 부족한 상황인 것으로 전해졌다.

동창회는 후배들이 쾌적한 환경에서 학업에 전념할 수 있도록 뜻을 모았다. 특히 1기부터 15기까지 동문이 기수별로 2천만 원씩 십시일반 모금해 총 3억 원의 기금을 마련했다.  

이날 전달식에는 최재원 부산대 총장을 비롯해 김성식 치의학전문대학원장, 손성애 부원장, 김현철 발전재단 이사장, 음종혁 동창회장, 이신흥 기금관리위원장이 참석해 학제 전환에 따른 협력 방안을 논의했다.  

최재원 총장은 “동문들의 따뜻한 마음과 모교 사랑이 부산대의 미래를 밝히는 원동력”이라며 “이번 기부는 치과대학의 도약과 지역사회 의료 발전에도 큰 힘이 될 것”이라고 말했다.  

음종혁 동창회장은 “모교의 새 출발을 응원하는 마음으로 이번 기부를 결정했다”며 “예과생들이 좋은 환경에서 공부할 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원하겠다”고 강조했다.   

[Here is an English News Article] Pusan National University dental alumni donate 300 million won for new undergraduate program

Alumni of Pusan National University’s School of Dentistry and Graduate School of Dentistry have donated 300 million won (about 220,000 U.S. dollars) to support the university’s transition to an undergraduate dental program starting in 2026.  

The donation ceremony was held Thursday at the university’s main administration building, officials said. The funds will be used to improve classrooms and laboratory facilities for students entering the new pre-dentistry program next year.  

Pusan National University plans to shift from a graduate-based to an undergraduate-based dental education system by 2028. Beginning with the 2026 academic year, the university will admit 80 pre-dentistry students annually. Because the existing facilities were designed for graduate-level education, additional learning space is needed to accommodate the incoming students.  

The alumni association raised the fund collectively, with members from the first through the 15th graduating classes each contributing about 20 million won.  

“Your warm hearts and love for your alma mater have become the driving force behind Pusan National University’s future,” university President Choi Jae-won said during the ceremony. “This contribution will support not only the development of our dental school but also the advancement of local medical services.”  

Eum Jong-hyuk, president of the alumni association, said the donation reflects the alumni’s shared wish to see their alma mater thrive under the new system. “We will continue to support future students so they can study in a better environment,” he said.  

Graduate School Dean Kim Sung-sik added that the restructuring marks “an important step for PNU to lead the future of dental education,” and that the alumni’s support provides “strong encouragement.”
