[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 글로벌 항공우주 방위산업 선도기업인 에어버스(Airbus)의 자회사 ‘씨티씨(CTC·Composite Technology Centre)’의 연구개발(R&D) 오피스를 유치하며, 미래 항공산업 집적단지 조성의 첫걸음을 내디뎠다.  

시는 지난 7월 2일 ‘CTC 연구개발 부산 오피스’가 부산테크노파크 지사단지에 입주한 이후, 항공기 열가소성 복합재 부품 등 구체적인 협력 연구개발 분야를 선정하고 본격적인 추진 계획을 마련해왔다.  

이번 유치를 통해 지역 항공부품 기업들은 글로벌 복합소재 공급망에 부합하는 기술 역량과 네트워크를 확보하게 되었으며, 향후 국제 공동개발 등 고부가가치 사업 참여 기반을 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 크다.  

CTC는 에어버스가 100% 출자한 독립 법인으로, 항공기 복합재 구조물 설계 및 공정 기술 개발을 전담하는 독일의 전문 연구기관이다.  

부산 오피스는 한국을 넘어 아시아 전역의 이동수단(모빌리티) 복합소재 분야 기술혁신 허브로 자리매김할 계획이다. 이를 위해 ▲지자체 ▲국내 선도기업(앵커 기업) ▲대학 등과의 산·학·연 협력을 기반으로 공동 연구개발을 추진하며, 국내 항공부품 기업들의 기술혁신과 지속 가능한 산업 생태계 조성을 적극 지원한다.  

또한 ‘에어버스 테크 허브 코리아(Airbus Tech Hub Korea·대전 소재)’와의 전략적 연계 협력을 통해 지역 업계, 학계, 정부 기관, 스타트업 간 기술 협업을 확대함으로써 글로벌 기술 허브 네트워크와의 연동을 강화할 예정이다.  

부산시는 이번 CTC 유치를 계기로 해외 유수 항공우주 전문기업 연구소를 추가 유치하고, 글로벌 공급망 기반의 항공산업 생태계를 조성하는 등 ‘부산 미래항공 클러스터’ 구축을 본격화할 방침이다.  

마크 페테 CTC 최고경영자(CEO)는 “부산의 탄탄한 인프라와 파트너 기업들의 혁신 역량을 바탕으로 대한항공 등과 함께 첨단 복합소재 혁신 프로젝트를 추진해 장기적인 협력관계를 구축할 것”이라고 말했다.

정현보 대한항공 상무는 “CTC 부산 오피스 개소는 부산이 미래 항공산업의 중심으로 도약하는 전환점이 될 것”이라며 지역 경제 활성화 의지를 밝혔다. 김형균 부산테크노파크 원장 또한 “CTC와의 협력을 통해 부산이 아시아 경량소재부품 허브 도시로 성장할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.  

박형준 부산시장은 “CTC 부산 오피스 개소는 부산이 글로벌 공급망에 본격적으로 연결되는 실질적인 첫걸음”이라며, “지역 부품 기업들이 CTC, 대한항공과 함께 상생하는 산업 생태계를 만들고, 가덕도 신공항과 연계한 부산 미래항공 클러스터의 결실을 맺을 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

Busan has taken a major step toward building a future-oriented aviation industry cluster by attracting an R&D office of Composite Technology Centre (CTC), a subsidiary of global aerospace and defense leader Airbus.

The city government said the CTC Busan Office opened in July at Busan Technopark’s Jisa Campus, where it has since been developing cooperative research projects focused on thermoplastic composite parts for aircraft and related technologies.

With CTC’s presence, local aviation parts manufacturers are expected to strengthen their position in the global composite materials supply chain and gain opportunities to participate in high-value international joint development projects.

CTC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Airbus based in Germany, specializes in composite structure design and manufacturing process technologies for aircraft. Its Busan office aims to grow into an innovation hub for mobility composite materials not just in Korea but across Asia.

The office plans to collaborate with local governments, major Korean companies, and universities to drive joint R&D efforts and support technological innovation among domestic aviation suppliers, fostering a sustainable industrial ecosystem. It will also work closely with Airbus Tech Hub Korea, located in Daejeon, to expand technology partnerships among regional industries, academia, government institutions, and startups, strengthening ties within the global innovation network.

Building on the CTC office’s establishment, Busan plans to attract more research centers from leading aerospace companies worldwide and create an integrated aerospace industry ecosystem based on the global supply chain.

CTC CEO Marc Fette said the company will pursue advanced composite innovation projects with partners including Korean Air, leveraging Busan’s strong industrial infrastructure and innovative capacity to build long-term cooperation.

Jeong Hyun-bo, managing director at Korean Air, said the launch of the CTC Busan Office marks “a turning point for Busan to rise as the center of Korea’s future aviation industry,” pledging active contributions to revitalize the regional economy.

Kim Hyung-kyun, president of Busan Technopark, added that collaboration with CTC will help the city become a hub for lightweight materials and components in Asia.

Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon said the office’s opening represents “Busan’s first substantial step toward joining the global supply chain,” emphasizing that the city will foster a cooperative industrial ecosystem between CTC, Korean Air, and local suppliers, while linking development efforts with the new Gadeok Airport project.
