[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산에서 열리는 세계도핑방지기구(WADA) 제6차 총회에 국제스포츠 거물급 인사들이 대거 참석한다.

 

오는 2일부터 5일까지 부산 벡스코(BEXCO)에서 아시아 최초로 개최되는 이번 총회는 전 세계 191개국에서 2천여 명이 참여하는 스포츠 분야 최대 규모의 국제회의로, 앞으로 6년간 적용될 새로운 국제 반도핑 기준을 확정하는 중요한 행사다. 

 

부산서 개최되는 세계도핑방지기구 총회  

세계도핑방지기구(WADA)가 주최하고 부산광역시, 한국도핑방지위원회(KADA)가 공동 주관하는 이번 총회는 6년마다 개최되는 국제회의다.

 

12월 1일, 해운대 누리마을 에이펙(APEC) 하우스에서 최휘영 장관이 주재하는 사전 만찬을 시작으로 2일, 개회식과 함께 공식 일정에 돌입한다.

개회식에는 짐바브웨 올림픽 수영 금메달리스트인 커스티 코번트리 국제올림픽위원회 위원장과 중국 쇼트트랙 금메달리스트인 양양 세계도핑방지기구 부회장, 해머던지기 금메달리스트인 무로후시 고지 전 일본 스포츠청장, 탁구 금메달리스트인 유승민 대한체육회장 등 올림픽 영웅을 비롯해 1,200여 명이 참석한다. 김연경 부산 총회 홍보대사도 스포츠 공정성에 관한 특별한 메시지를 전하기 위해 개회식 무대에 오른다.

 

이어 3일부터 5일까지는 본회의와 분과위원회가 열린다. 3일, 박형준 부산시장이 주재하는 환영 만찬, 4일 문체부 김대현 제2차관과 유승민 대한체육회장이 주최하는 국제올림픽위원회 위원 초청 만찬도 진행한다.

 

5일 폐회식에서는 스포츠 공정성과 선수 보호, 도핑방지 국제협력 강화를 담은 ‘부산선언’을 발표할 예정이며, 이는 2027년부터 전 세계적으로 모든 국제경기단체와 국가반도핑기구가 준수할 새로운 도핑방지규약과 국제표준을 담은 선언이다.

 

 

국제스포츠 거물급 인사 집결  

총회에는 IOC 위원장 커스티 코번트리, 전 IOC 위원장 토마스 바흐를 비롯해 위톨드 반카 WADA 회장, 엠마 테르호 IOC 선수위원장, 토마스 바흐 전 IOC 위원장, 엠마 테르호 IOC 선수위원장, 한국 체육계 인사 유승민 대한체육회장 등이 참가한다.

 

또한 쿠닝 파타마 리스왓트라쿤 세계배드민턴연맹 회장, 네나드 라로비치 세계레슬링연맹 회장, 잉마르 데 보스 국제승마연맹 회장, 다비드 라파티앙 국제사이클연맹 회장, 장 크리스토프 롤랑 국제조정연맹 회장, 페트라 쇠링 국제탁구연맹 회장 등 종목별 연맹 대표를 비롯한 국제올림픽위원회 위원 20여 명과 호주와 사우디아라비아, 카자흐스탄, 우크라이나, 이집트, 에스토니아 등 각국 스포츠 부처 장관과 일본 문부과학성 부대신, 중국 체육총국 부국장, 그리스·아랍에미리트 차관 등 스포츠 부처 장차관도 30여 명이 부산을 방문하며, 전 배구선수 김연경 한국도핑방지위원회 선수위원이 총회 홍보대사로 참여한다.  

 

주요 의제와 행사 프로그램  

이번 총회에서는 청소년 선수 보호 강화, 국가반도핑기구의 독립성 존중 등 내용을 포함한 ‘세계도핑방지규약’과 ‘국제표준’ 개정안을 확정한다. 이로써 전 세계 선수들이 공정한 경쟁 환경에서 경기할 수 있는 새로운 기준이 마련된다.

 

부산 문화관광 프로그램도 함께 운영되어, 총회 참석자들은 해동용궁사, 감천문화마을, 국제시장 등 부산의 대표 명소를 체험한다.

 

최휘영 문체부 장관은 “전 세계 선수와 정부, 국제스포츠기구 관계자가 한자리에 모여 공정 스포츠의 새로운 기준을 만드는 중요한 순간에 한국이 중심 역할을 맡게 되어 매우 자랑스럽다”며 “문체부는 이번 총회가 투명한 규정과 강력한 과학, 안전한 선수 보호 강화로 이어지게 하겠다”고 밝혔다.

 

양윤준 KADA 위원장도 “이번 총회는 전 세계 주요 이해관계자들이 모여 미래 비전을 함께 설계하는 자리로, 깨끗한 스포츠를 보호하고 공정성을 지키는 데 한걸음 더 나아가는 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.

 

[Here’s an English news version] BUSAN — Global Sports Leaders to Gather in Busan for the Sixth WADA World Conference

 

Leading figures in international sports will gather in Busan for the Sixth World Conference on Doping in Sport, organized by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

 

The conference, which will take place at BEXCO in Busan from December 2 to 5 as the first-ever WADA World Conference held in Asia, is the largest international sports meeting of its kind, attended by about 2,000 participants from 191 countries. The event will adopt new international anti-doping standards that will apply for the next six years.

 

Hosted by WADA and co-organized by the Busan Metropolitan Government and the Korea Anti-Doping Agency (KADA), the World Conference is held every six years.

 

The event will officially begin on December 1 with a pre-conference dinner at Haeundae’s Nurimaru APEC House, presided over by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young. The opening ceremony will take place the following day, marking the start of official proceedings.

 

The opening ceremony will bring together more than 1,200 participants, including Olympic champions such as International Olympic Committee (IOC) Chair Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe, WADA Vice Chair Yang Yang of China, former Japanese Sports Agency Commissioner and hammer throw gold medalist Koji Murofushi, and Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President and table tennis gold medalist Yoo Seung-min. Kim Yeon-koung, the promotional ambassador for the Busan conference, will also take the stage with a special message on sports integrity.

 

From December 3 to 5, plenary and committee sessions will be held. On December 3, Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon will host a welcome dinner, followed on December 4 by a dinner for IOC members hosted by Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Dae-hyun and Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo. The conference will close on December 5 with the adoption of the “Busan Declaration,” which outlines commitments to sports integrity, athlete protection, and strengthened international cooperation in anti-doping. The declaration will codify new anti-doping rules and international standards that all international sports federations and national anti-doping organizations will follow from 2027.

 

Global Sports Leaders to Attend

Prominent participants include IOC Chair Kirsty Coventry, former IOC President Thomas Bach, WADA President Witold Bańka, IOC Athletes’ Commission Chair Emma Terho, and Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min.

 

Also attending are leaders of various international federations, such as Badminton World Federation President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, United World Wrestling President Nenad Lalovic, International Equestrian Federation President Ingmar De Vos, Union Cycliste Internationale President David Lappartient, World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland, and International Table Tennis Federation President Petra Sörling.

 

In addition, around 20 IOC members and 30 ministers and vice ministers of sports from countries including Australia, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Egypt, Estonia, Japan, China, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates will attend the conference. Former volleyball star Kim Yeon-koung, now a member of KADA’s Athletes’ Committee, will serve as the event’s ambassador.

 

Key Agendas and Program Highlights

At the Busan conference, participants will ratify amendments to the “World Anti-Doping Code” and “International Standards,” which include provisions to enhance the protection of young athletes and respect for the independence of national anti-doping organizations. The changes will establish new global standards for ensuring fair competition among athletes worldwide.

 

Delegates will also have opportunities to experience Busan’s cultural and tourism attractions, including Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Gamcheon Culture Village, and Gukje Market.

 

Minister Choi Hwi-young said, “We are proud that Korea is taking a central role in creating new global standards for fair play in sports, bringing together athletes, governments, and international sports organizations from around the world. The Ministry will ensure that this conference leads to stronger regulation, sound science, and enhanced protection for athletes.”

 

KADA Chair Yang Yoon-jun added, “This conference is a gathering of key global stakeholders to shape a shared vision for the future. It will mark an important step forward in protecting clean sport and strengthening fairness.”
