[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 더불어민주당 부산광역시당이 4일 부산 금정구 침례병원 부지에 추진 중인 국민건강보험공단 직영 제2보험자병원 건립과 관련해 “집권여당의 책임으로 침례병원 공공병원화를 반드시 완성하겠다”고 밝혔다.  

민주당 부산시당(변성완 시당위원장)은 이날 기자회견에서 “침례병원 공공병원화는 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 부산시민의 건강권 문제”라며 “8년간 반복된 실패와 지연을 끝내겠다”고 강조했다.  

침례병원은 2017년 7월 폐쇄된 이후 금정구와 인근 지역 주민들이 응급환자 이송 지연, 중증질환 대응 의료 공백, 장애인·산모 의료서비스 부족 등 불편을 겪어왔다. 민주당은 “이 같은 지역 의료 불평등 해소가 공공병원화의 핵심 목표”라고 설명했다.  

시당은 2024년 금정구청장 보궐선거 당시 정책협약을 통해 침례병원 공공병원화를 약속했으며, 제21대 대선에서도 금정구 지역 공약으로 재확인했다. 지난 2일 정청래 당대표와 박주민 국회 보건복지위원장, 정은경 보건복지부 장관에게 건의문을 전달하고 협조를 요청하기도 했다.  

민주당 부산시당은 앞으로 △당 지도부와 국회 차원의 협조체계 구축 △건강보험정책심의위원회 조속한 안건 상정 △예산 확보와 행정절차 점검 △시민사회 및 지역사회와의 협력 등을 약속했다.  

시당 관계자는 “침례병원 공공병원화는 단순히 병원 하나를 짓는 일이 아니라, 공공의료 확충과 지역균형발전, 시민의 생명과 건강을 지키는 일”이라며 “침례병원을 국민건강보험공단 제2보험자병원으로 성공적으로 개원시키겠다”고 말했다.  

DP Busan Chapter Vows to Complete Public Conversion of Former Bapist Hospital

The Busan Metropolitan Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea (DP) pledged on Thursday to “fulfill its responsibility as the ruling party and complete the public conversion of the former Busan Baptist Hospital site in Geumjeong District,” where the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) plans to establish its second directly operated hospital.  

At a press conference, the DP Busan Chapter said the public hospital project “is no longer an issue that can be delayed,” calling it “a critical matter directly tied to the health rights of Busan citizens.” The chapter vowed to end “eight years of repeated setbacks and unfulfilled promises.”  

Since the closure of the Baptist Hospital in July 2017, residents of Geumjeong and nearby areas have suffered from long emergency transfer distances, inadequate medical response for severe diseases, and insufficient services for persons with disabilities and pregnant women. The DP stressed that “bridging such regional healthcare disparities is at the heart of the project.”  

The Democratic Party reaffirmed its commitment to the hospital’s public conversion during the 2024 Geumjeong District by-election through a policy agreement and again as a local campaign pledge during the 21st presidential election. On December 2, DP officials, including Party Leader Jeong Cheong-rae and National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee Chair Park Joo-min, delivered a written proposal to Minister of Health and Welfare Jeong Eun-kyeong, urging government cooperation.  

The Busan Chapter pledged to:  

- Establish a coordination system between party leadership and the National Assembly.  

- Push for the swift deliberation and approval of the proposal by the Health Insurance Policy Deliberation Committee.  

- Secure budgetary support and oversee administrative procedures.  

- Strengthen cooperation with civic and local groups to ensure public participation in the project.  

“The hospital’s public conversion is not just about constructing a new facility but about expanding public healthcare, achieving regional balance, and protecting the lives and health of Busan residents,” a party official said. “We will make sure the facility successfully opens as the NHIS’s second directly operated hospital and becomes a strong foundation for citizens’ health rights.”
