[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국토교통부가 KTX-이음 중앙선(부전~청량리) 노선에 기장역 정차를 최종 확정했다.  

기장군은 15일 이번 결정을 크게 환영하며 “군민과 함께 이뤄낸 성과”라고 밝혔다. 군은 KTX-이음 정차로 기장군 접근성이 대폭 개선돼 지역 관광 활성화와 지역경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대하고 있다.  

기장군은 이번 결정을 ‘기장군 KTX 시대’의 첫걸음으로 삼아 기장역을 동부산 관광의 중심 거점으로 육성하고, KTX-이음 증편을 코레일과 국토교통부에 지속 요청할 계획이다.  

군은 지난 4월 코레일 부산경남본부와 업무협약을 맺고 철도관광을 본격화했으며, 기장역 인근 기장시장과 연계해 지역 상권 활성화 방안도 검토 중이다.  

정종복 군수는 “기장군민과 함께 ‘기장군 KTX 시대’의 개막을 진심으로 환영한다”며 “KTX-이음 기장역 정차는 지역 관광과 경제 전반에 활력을 불어넣는 전환점이 될 것”이라고 말했다.  

한편, 군은 2022년부터 범군민 서명운동 등 다양한 활동을 통해 KTX-이음 정차를 꾸준히 건의해왔으며, 관내 업체·기관과 협력해 기장역 이용객 대상으로 루지·짚라인 및 국립부산과학관 할인, 지역 상가 혜택 제공 등 이용 활성화 정책도 추진하고 있다.  

[Here’s the English version of the news article] Kijang Station Confirmed as KTX-Eum Stop, Marking Start of 'Kijang KTX Era'

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has finalized Kijang Station as a stop on the KTX-Eum Central Line (Bujeon–Cheongnyangni), paving the way for what local officials are calling the beginning of the “Kijang KTX era.”  

The Kijang County Office on Monday welcomed the decision, calling it “a milestone achieved together with residents.” Officials said the new KTX-Eum stop would significantly improve accessibility to Kijang, boosting local tourism and revitalizing the regional economy.  

The county plans to make Kijang Station a key hub for eastern Busan tourism and will continue to request additional KTX-Eum services from Korail and the transport ministry.  

In April, Kijang County signed an agreement with the Korail Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters to promote railway tourism and is exploring projects to link nearby Kijang Market with Kijang Station to stimulate local businesses.  

Mayor Jeong Jong-bok said, “We wholeheartedly welcome the opening of the Kijang KTX era together with our residents. The inclusion of Kijang Station on the KTX-Eum route will become a turning point for local tourism and economic growth.”  

The county has been campaigning for the stop since 2022 through a signature drive and community outreach. In cooperation with local businesses, it has also introduced incentives such as discounts for KTX-Eum, ITX-Maum, and Mugunghwa ticket holders at local attractions like the Skyline Luge, National Busan Science Museum, and participating cafés and restaurants to attract more passengers to Kijang Station.
