[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산 서부산권의 새로운 영상문화 중심지인 ‘서부산영상미디어센터’가 17일 문을 열었다. 

강서열린문화센터 2~3층에 조성된 센터는 총면적 1,523㎡ 규모로, 영상 제작과 교육, 상영, 커뮤니티 등 다양한 미디어 활동이 가능한 복합문화공간이다.  

부산시가 건립하고 (재)영화의전당이 위탁 운영을 맡은 서부산영상미디어센터는 시민 맞춤형 콘텐츠 제작 지원과 체계적인 미디어 교육 프로그램 운영을 통해 지역 미디어문화 확산의 거점으로 자리 잡을 전망이다.  

센터에는 시민 참여형 영화상영관 ‘모두극장’을 비롯해 영상제작 스튜디오, 1인 미디어실, 전문 편집실 등이 마련됐다. 개관식에서는 다큐멘터리 상영, 축하영상, 인공지능(AI)과의 대화, 시설 투어 등이 진행됐다.박형준 부산시장은 AI와의 대화에서 문화 인프라 확충에 따른 부산 문화의 미래 비전을 함께 논의했다.  

시는 이번 개관을 통해 서부산 지역의 문화 접근성을 높이고, 시민 주도형 미디어 문화 생태계를 조성할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 서부산영상미디어센터는 개관과 함께 내년 1월 17일까지 한 달간 개관영화제를 열어 무료 상영, 관객과의 대화, 특별 강연 등을 진행한다. 내년부터는 예술·독립영화 상영, 영상제작 교육, 장비 대여 등 정규 프로그램을 본격 운영할 예정이다.  

이날 박 시장은 개관식에 앞서 현대미술관 옥상레스토랑과 낙동아트센터를 차례로 방문해 개관 준비 상황을 점검했다. 내년 초 오픈 예정인 현대미술관 옥상레스토랑은 미술과 미식이 결합된 복합문화공간으로, 낙동아트센터는 내년 1월 개관을 앞둔 서부산권 최초의 클래식 전용 공연장이다.

박 시장은 “서부산영상미디어센터는 미디어 기반 시설이 부족했던 서부산 시민들의 문화적 갈증을 해소할 새로운 플랫폼”이라며 “낙동아트센터 등 인근 문화시설과 연계해 시민 누구나 일상 속에서 수준 높은 문화를 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다”고 말했다.

The Seobuson Video Media Center, a new landmark for visual media culture in western Busan, officially opened on December 17.  

Located on the second and third floors of the Gangseo Open Cultural Center, the 1,523-square-meter facility serves as a comprehensive cultural space that supports film production, education, screenings, and community activities.  

Built by the Busan Metropolitan City and operated by the Busan Cinema Center, the new media hub aims to promote a citizen-driven media culture through customized content production support and structured media education programs.  

The center features citizen-participatory screening halls such as *Modu Theater*, production studios, one-person media rooms, and professional editing suites. At the opening ceremony, attendees enjoyed documentary screenings, congratulatory videos, a live “talk with AI,” and facility tours—events that drew strong public interest. During his dialogue with the AI, Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon discussed the city’s vision for expanding cultural infrastructure and advancing Busan’s cultural future.  

With this opening, the city expects to improve cultural accessibility in western Busan and foster a citizen-centered media ecosystem. To celebrate its launch, the center will host an *Opening Film Festival* through January 17, featuring free screenings, talks with directors, and special lectures. From next year, regular programs such as art and independent film screenings, media production education, and equipment rental services will follow.  

Prior to the ceremony, Mayor Park visited the rooftop restaurant of the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art and the Nakdong Art Center to inspect their opening progress. The museum’s rooftop restaurant, scheduled to open early next year, will combine art and dining as a new type of cultural space. The Nakdong Art Center, set to open in January, will be western Busan’s first concert hall dedicated to classical music.  

Mayor Park stated, “The Seobuson Video Media Center will serve as a new platform that satisfies the cultural needs of citizens in western Busan, where media infrastructure has been relatively limited. By connecting it with nearby facilities such as the Nakdong Art Center, we will ensure that all citizens can easily enjoy high-quality cultural experiences in their daily lives.”
