[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 산업통상자원부가 주관한 ‘2025 소부장 특화단지 성과공유회’에서 부산 전력반도체 특화단지가 전국 우수 특화단지로 선정됐다. 

 

이는 지난 2023년 제2기 소재·부품·장비(소부장) 특화단지로 지정된 이후 추진해 온 각종 사업 성과가 공식적으로 인정받은 것이다.  

 

인프라 구축·R&D·투자유치 등 높은 평가  

부산 특화단지는 ▲8인치 탄화규소(SiC) 전력반도체 생산 기반 구축 ▲1.7kV급 모빌리티 화합물반도체 연구개발 성과 ▲재직자 대상 전문인력 양성 ▲선도(앵커)기업 투자 유치 ▲광역 협력체계 구축 등에서 높은 점수를 받았다.  

 

특히 2024년 기회발전특구 지정, 2025년 분산에너지특구 지정 등으로 첨단산업 공급망과 기업 유치 여건을 단계적으로 마련해 온 점이 긍정적으로 평가됐다. 또한 SK파워텍㈜·제엠제코㈜ 등 앵커기업과의 협약, ㈜아이큐랩 등 차세대 전력반도체 기업 유치, 국제탄화규소학술대회(ICSCRM)의 국내 최초 개최 등 글로벌 협력 성과도 높은 평가를 받았다.  

 

연구개발·전문인력 양성·투자 확대 지속  

올해로 사업 2년 차를 맞은 부산 전력반도체 특화단지는 연구개발, 인력 양성, 투자 유치 등 다양한 분야에서 가시적인 성과를 내고 있다.  

 

연구개발 부문에서는 특허청(현 지식재산처)과 협력해 글로벌 시장 진출을 위한 지식재산 기반 R&D 전략을 수립했으며, 대구·광주 특화단지와의 수요 연계 협력도 모색 중이다. 8인치 SiC 전력반도체 전용 생산시설 구축을 위한 기본 및 실시설계 용역을 추진하고, 공정 장비 도입 및 시설 고도화를 위해 사업비 92억 원을 증액 편성했다.  

 

또한 연 120명의 재직자 전문기술인력과 함께 지역 반도체 특성화대학 및 전력반도체 종합기술지원사업을 통해 연간 1,110명의 화합물반도체 전문 인력을 양성하고 있다. 부산 팹리스 생태계 조성을 위한 업무협약 체결과 팹리스 아카데미 개설, 일본 나고야시와의 국제 교류 추진 등도 주요 성과로 꼽힌다.  

 

기업 투자유치 부문에서도 ▲SK파워텍㈜의 700억 원 규모 양산 설비 확충 ▲㈜아이큐랩 본사 및 생산시설 준공(1,000억 원) ▲㈜네이처플라워세미컨덕터 착공(100억 원) 등으로 전년 대비 41% 증가한 투자 성과를 달성했다.  

 

차세대 전력반도체 글로벌 허브도시 도약  

시는 ‘미래 모빌리티 산업을 선도하는 차세대 전력반도체 남부권 거점도시’를 목표로, 기장군 동남권방사선의·과학산업단지(148만㎡)를 중심으로 2030년까지 총 4,000억 원을 투입할 계획이다.  

 

우선 600억 원을 투입해 8인치 SiC 전용 생산시설과 고효율 화합물반도체 핵심기술 개발, 전문인력 양성사업을 추진 중이다. 아울러 SK파워텍, 아이큐랩, 제엠제코, 효성전기㈜, ㈜에스티아이 등 앵커기업과 50여 개 지역 기업 간 협력을 통해 산업 생태계를 집적화하고 있다.  

 

중장기적으로는 ▲기업 양산용 팹 ▲기업지원센터 ▲전력반도체 연구개발센터 구축을 단계적으로 추진해 부산을 ‘차세대 전력반도체 글로벌 허브도시’로 육성할 방침이다.  

 

박형준 부산시장은 “이번 우수 특화단지 선정은 부산의 전력반도체 산업 육성 노력이 대외적으로 인정받은 의미 있는 성과”라며 “정부와 협력해 차세대 전력반도체 산업의 기술 자립화를 지속 추진하고, 해양반도체 등 부산의 특성을 살린 신산업 발굴로 대한민국 반도체 산업 발전에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

**City recognized for achievements in R&D, talent development, and corporate investment  

 

Busan Metropolitan City announced on December 16 that its Power Semiconductor Specialized Complex has been named one of the nation’s outstanding specialized clusters at the *2025 Materials, Parts and Equipment (MPE) Specialized Complex Performance Sharing Conference* hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.  

 

The recognition marks an official acknowledgment of Busan’s progress since the cluster was designated as a *Phase II Specialized Complex* in 2023.  

 

Strong performance across infrastructure and collaboration  

The Busan cluster received high marks for building an 8-inch silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor production base, achieving 1.7 kV-class compound semiconductor R&D results for mobility, fostering professional workforce training, attracting anchor company investments, and enhancing regional cooperation.  

 

The city’s phased industrial advancement, including designations as an *Opportunity Development Zone* in December 2024 and a *Distributed Energy Zone* in November 2025, helped establish a favorable environment for strengthening the MPE supply chain and attracting companies. Collaboration agreements with anchor firms such as SK Powertech and JM Zeco, the attraction of next-generation power semiconductor producers including IQLab, and hosting of the *International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM)* in Korea for the first time also contributed to the selection.  

 

Expanding R&D, talent training, and investment capacity  

Now in its second year, the Busan Power Semiconductor Cluster continues to achieve visible results across R&D, education, and corporate investment. The cluster completed an intellectual property R&D (IP-R&D) strategy with the Intellectual Property Office (formerly KIPO) to support global market expansion of participating firms and is exploring joint projects with specialized clusters in Daegu and Gwangju for electric and autonomous vehicles.  

 

Design work for a dedicated 8-inch SiC power semiconductor facility is in progress, with a total of 9.2 billion won in additional budget secured for advanced production equipment and plant upgrades. The cluster trains 120 incumbent professionals annually and fosters about 1,110 compound semiconductor experts each year through university and technical training programs. Busan also launched the *Fabless Academy* to support local semiconductor design companies and promoted international collaboration with Nagoya, Japan.  

 

Investment within the cluster has expanded significantly, with SK Powertech investing 70 billion won to expand mass-production facilities, IQLab completing a 100-billion-won headquarters and plant, and Nature Flower Semiconductor beginning construction with a 10-billion-won investment—resulting in a 41 percent year-on-year increase in total corporate investment.  

 

Building a global hub for next-generation power semiconductors  

Busan aims to become the southern hub for next-generation power semiconductors leading the future mobility industry. The city plans to invest a total of 400 billion won by 2030 in the Dongnam Radiation and Science Industrial Complex in Gijang-gun, covering 1.48 million square meters.  

 

An initial 60 billion won investment is being directed toward the construction of an 8-inch SiC production line, the development of high-efficiency compound semiconductor core technologies, and the training of skilled professionals. The city is also fostering cooperation among anchor firms—SK Powertech, IQLab, JM Zeco, Hyosung Electric, and STI—and around 50 partner companies to expand and integrate the regional semiconductor industry.  

 

In the mid- to long term, Busan plans to establish mass-production fabs, enterprise support centers, and R&D facilities to evolve into a *global hub city for next-generation power semiconductors.*  

 

Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon said, “The selection as an outstanding specialized complex is meaningful recognition of the city’s continued efforts to nurture the power semiconductor industry,” adding, “We will strengthen cooperation with the central government to achieve technological self-reliance and foster new industries such as marine semiconductors that reflect Busan’s unique strengths.”
