[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 광안대교 접속도로 연결공사를 완료하고 22일 정식 개통하면서 해운대 신시가지와 센텀시티 일원의 상습적인 교통 혼잡이 크게 완화될 것으로 기대된다.

시는 22일 오후 3시 해운대구 올림픽공원에서 박형준 시장을 비롯해 국회의원, 해운대구청장, 시의원, 공사 관계자, 시민 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 광안대교 접속도로 연결공사 개통식을 개최했다. 도로는 같은 날 오후 5시부터 전면 개통됐다.

이번 사업은 해운대구 신시가지와 센텀시티를 직접 연결해 광안대교 접근성을 높이기 위한 핵심 교통 인프라로, 부산시는 2017년 타당성 조사 이후 기본 및 실시설계를 거쳐 2023년 본 공사에 착수했다. 총사업비 412억 원이 전액 시비로 투입됐으며, 계획대로 3년 만에 준공됐다.

공사 기간 동안 시민 불편을 최소화하기 위해 야간 작업과 도로 부분 통제 방식을 병행했음에도 불구하고, 공정은 차질 없이 마무리됐다. 시는 그동안 교통 통제에 협조한 시민들에게 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

접속도로 개통으로 해운대 신시가지에서 원동 나들목 교차로까지 이동 시간이 약 10분가량 단축될 전망이다. 특히 상습 정체 구간인 수영강변대로와 해운대로의 교통량이 분산되면서 센텀시티 일대 교통 흐름이 크게 개선될 것으로 기대된다.

부산시가 실시한 종합교통영향 분석 결과에 따르면, 개통 이후 오후 6시부터 7시까지 혼잡 시간대 수영강변대로를 통과하는 차량은 기존 하루 약 2만 2천 대에서 1만 6천 대 수준으로 줄어들 것으로 분석됐다. 이에 따라 도로 혼잡도는 약 30퍼센트 감소하고, 통행 시간 단축과 운행 비용 절감 등을 포함해 연간 약 36억 원의 경제적 편익이 발생할 것으로 추산된다.

여기에 더해 지난 2월부터 전면 시행된 광안대교 스마트톨링시스템으로 벡스코 요금소가 철거된 데 이어 이번 접속도로까지 개통되면서 센텀시티 일원의 교통 환경은 한층 더 개선될 전망이다. 내년 초 개통 예정인 만덕~센텀 대심도 도시고속화도로와의 연계 효과도 기대를 모은다.

박형준 부산시장은 “공사 기간 동안 교통 통제에 적극 협조해 주신 시민들께 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “이번 접속도로 개통으로 해운대 일원의 상습 교통난이 상당 부분 해소되고, 광안대교 접근성이 개선돼 시민들의 이동 편의가 크게 향상될 것”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “앞으로도 부산시는 교통 혼잡 해소를 위한 다양한 정책을 지속적으로 추진해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.

The City of Busan officially opened the Gwangan Bridge access road on Sunday, a long-awaited infrastructure project expected to significantly alleviate chronic traffic congestion in the Haeundae and Centum City areas.

An opening ceremony was held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 22 at Olympic Park in Haeundae-gu, attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, National Assembly members, district officials, city councilors, project representatives, and local residents, totaling about 200 participants. The road was fully opened to traffic at 5 p.m. the same day.

The project was designed to directly connect Haeundae New Town with Centum City, improving access to Gwangan Bridge and dispersing traffic from heavily congested routes. The city launched a feasibility study in 2017, completed basic and detailed designs between 2018 and 2019, and began construction in 2023. A total of KRW 41.2 billion was invested entirely with city funds, and the project was completed on schedule within three years.

Despite extensive night work and partial road closures aimed at minimizing inconvenience to citizens, construction progressed without delays. City officials expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation during the construction period.

With the opening of the access road, travel time from Haeundae New Town to the Wondong Interchange is expected to be reduced by approximately 10 minutes. Traffic volume on chronically congested roads such as Suyeong Riverside Road and Haeundae-ro is also expected to decrease, easing congestion across the Centum City area.

According to Busan’s comprehensive traffic impact analysis, during peak congestion hours between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., the number of vehicles passing through Suyeong Riverside Road is projected to drop from about 22,000 to 16,000 vehicles. This represents a reduction of roughly 30 percent in road congestion. The city estimates annual economic benefits of approximately KRW 3.6 billion, driven by reduced travel times and lower vehicle operating costs.

Traffic flow is expected to improve further following the full implementation of the Gwangan Bridge smart tolling system earlier this year, which led to the complete removal of the BEXCO toll plaza. Additional synergy is anticipated when the Manduk–Centum deep underground urban expressway opens in early next year.

Mayor Park stated, “I sincerely thank citizens for their patience and cooperation during traffic controls throughout the construction period.” He added, “With the opening of this access road, chronic traffic congestion in the Haeundae area will be significantly alleviated, and accessibility to Gwangan Bridge will be greatly improved, enhancing overall mobility for our citizens.” He emphasized that the city will continue to pursue comprehensive policies to address traffic congestion across Busan.
