[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 해양수산부가 부산청사 개청식을 열고 ‘해수부 부산 시대’의 본격적인 출발을 선언했다.

정부는 해수부 이전을 마중물로 해양수산 행정과 산업 기능을 집적해 해양수도권을 조성하고, 북극항로 시대를 선도하는 K-해양강국 구축에 속도를 낸다는 계획이다.

해양수산부는 23일 부산청사에서 개청식을 개최하고 부산 이전을 공식화했다. 이번 이전은 이재명 정부의 국정과제인 ‘북극항로 시대를 주도하는 K-해양강국 건설’의 핵심 과제로, 수도권에 집중된 행정 기능을 분산하고 동남권을 해양산업 중심지로 육성하기 위한 전략적 결정이다.

정부는 해수부 이전을 통해 해양수산 관련 행정뿐 아니라 해운·조선·물류·금융·연구 기능을 부산에 집적해 해양수도권을 조성한다는 구상이다. 이를 통해 해운기업과 정책 부처 간 소통을 강화하고, 현장 중심의 정책 수립과 신속한 의사결정을 가능하게 한다는 방침이다.

이날 개청식은 해양수산부 현판 제막식을 시작으로 부산 이전 해운기업인 SK해운과 에이치라인에 대한 감사패 증정, 축사 순으로 진행됐다. 행사에는 부산시장과 시민 대표를 비롯해 해양수산 종사자, 부산으로 이전한 해운기업 관계자, 해양수산부 직원 등 50여 명이 참석해 해수부 부산 이전의 의미를 함께 나눴다.

김성범 해양수산부 차관은 “대한민국 해양수도인 부산에서 정책과 산업, 현장이 긴밀히 연결되는 해양행정의 새 모델을 만들어가야 한다”며 “현장의 목소리가 정책에 적극 반영될 수 있도록 최선을 다해 달라”고 직원들에게 당부했다.

또한 김 차관은 부산 시민들을 향해 “해양수산부와 해운기업들이 안정적으로 정착해 실질적인 성과를 창출할 수 있도록 지역사회의 지속적인 관심과 지지를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.

해양수산부는 앞으로 북극항로 개척을 위한 국제 협력 강화, 극지 항로 대응 물류체계 구축, 친환경·스마트 해운 육성 등 핵심 과제를 부산에서 집중 추진할 계획이다. 이를 통해 부산을 글로벌 해양물류 허브이자 북극항로 시대의 전진기지로 육성한다는 목표다.

한편, 이재명 대통령은 오늘 오전 부산 해양수산부 청사에서 제55회 국무회의를 주재했다.

이날 회의에서는 <북극항로시대를 선도하는 부산항 3.0 추진전략>, <연말연시 다중운집인파 안전관리 대책> 등 두 건의 부처 보고가 진행됐다.

South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries officially opened its new headquarters in Busan on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the “Busan era” for the ministry and signaling a full-scale drive to build a maritime capital region and prepare for the Arctic shipping route age.**

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held an opening ceremony on December 23 at its newly relocated Busan office. The move is a key national policy task under the Lee Jae-myung administration aimed at strengthening Korea’s maritime competitiveness, easing excessive concentration in the Seoul metropolitan area, and positioning the country as a leading maritime power in the era of Arctic navigation.

By relocating to Busan, the government plans to concentrate maritime-related administrative, industrial, financial, and research functions in the southeastern region. The strategy is intended to enhance coordination between policymakers and the maritime industry, enabling faster decision-making and more field-oriented policies.

The opening ceremony featured the unveiling of the ministry’s new nameplate, the presentation of plaques of appreciation to shipping companies SK Shipping and H-Line Shipping for their relocation to Busan, and congratulatory remarks from officials. Around 50 people attended the event, including the mayor of Busan, local civic representatives, maritime industry workers, executives from relocated shipping firms, and ministry employees.

Vice Minister Kim Sung-bum emphasized the symbolic and practical importance of the move. “From Busan, the maritime capital of Korea, we must build a new model of maritime administration where policy and industry are closely connected,” he said, urging ministry staff to actively reflect voices from the field in policymaking.

He also called for public support, saying, “We ask Busan citizens for their continued encouragement so that the ministry and relocated shipping companies can settle successfully and generate tangible outcomes.”

Looking ahead, the ministry plans to use Busan as a strategic base to advance international cooperation on Arctic shipping routes, establish logistics systems capable of responding to polar navigation, and foster eco-friendly and smart shipping industries. Through these efforts, the government aims to develop Busan into a global maritime logistics hub and a forward base for the Arctic shipping era.
