[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘은 더불어민주당이 국회 상임위원장 선출과 국무총리 후보자 인준을 단독으로 처리한 데 대해 “의회 독재이자 입법 폭주”라고 직격했다.

박성훈 수석대변인(부산북구을)은 1일 논평에서 “민주당이 끝내 이성을 잃고 의회민주주의의 근간을 무너뜨렸다”며 “야당을 완전히 배제한 채 거대 의석수라는 완력을 앞세워 법사위원장을 포함한 11개 상임위원장을 단독 선출하고, 총리 인준안까지 일방적으로 밀어붙였다”고 주장했다.

그는 “이는 수십 년간 이어온 대화와 타협의 의회 관행을 짓밟은 폭거”라며 “의회주의에 대한 사망 선고와 다름없다”고 비판했다. 이어 “의석수는 국민이 맡긴 권한이지 민주주의를 해체하라는 백지위임장이 아니다”라고 강조했다.

민주당이 ‘국정 공백 최소화’와 ‘민생’을 이유로 제시한 데 대해서는 “국민을 기만하는 비겁한 변명에 불과하다”고 반박했다. 또 “1988년 13대 국회 이후 국회의장은 다수당이 맡되 법사위원장은 제2당이 맡아 권력 집중을 막는 것이 국회의 원칙이자 전통이었다”며 “최소한의 견제 장치마저 무너뜨렸다”고 성토했다.

아울러 “과거 야당 시절 협치와 소통을 강조하던 민주당이 권력을 잡자 안면을 바꾸고 의회 독재의 칼춤을 추고 있다”고 거듭 날을 세웠다.

최근 여론과 관련해서도 “민주당을 향한 지지율 하락은 독선과 오만에 대한 국민의 엄중한 경고”라며 “지방선거 이후 민의를 받들겠다는 다짐조차 한 달을 가지 못했다”고 주장했다.

박 대변인은 “민주당이 ‘대통령 심기 보좌’와 ‘방탄 입법 속도전’을 위해 국회를 사유화하고 있다”며 “국민의 경고를 무시하는 권력은 결국 국민의 심판을 피할 수 없다”고 목소리를 높였다.

이어 “국회 운영은 다수당의 일방통행식 결정으로 이뤄질 수 없으며, 다수결은 최후의 수단일 뿐”이라며 “소수 의견을 경청하고 합의를 이루는 과정이 의회민주주의의 본질”이라고 강조했다. 또 “토론 없는 국회는 민주주의가 아니라 숫자의 폭력에 불과하다”고 맹비난했다.

그는 “야당을 국정 파트너가 아닌 들러리로 취급하는 태도를 버리지 않는다면 중도층 이탈과 국민적 분노가 커질 것”이라며 “지금이라도 의회 독주의 탐욕을 내려놓고 여야 합의의 정신으로 복귀해야 한다”고 촉구했다.

그러면서 “이 같은 경고를 무시하고 독단적 입법을 계속한다면 더 큰 국민의 심판과 거센 역풍을 맞게 될 것”이라고 거듭 경고했다.

The People Power Party (PPP) launched a blistering attack on the Democratic Party of Korea (DP), labeling its unilateral selection of parliamentary committee chairs and confirmation of the Prime Minister nominee as a "parliamentary dictatorship" and a "legislative runaway."

In a commentary released on the 1st, Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-hoon (Busan Buk-gu Eul) claimed, "The DP has ultimately lost its reason and destroyed the very foundation of parliamentary democracy. Completely sidelining the ruling party, they used the brute force of their massive majority to unilaterally elect 11 committee chairs—including the crucial Legislation and Judiciary Committee chair—and forced through the confirmation bill for the Prime Minister."

He criticized the move, saying, "This is a tyrannical act that tramples upon decades of parliamentary tradition built on dialogue and compromise. It is nothing short of a death sentence for parliamentarism." He added, "A legislative majority is a power entrusted by the public, not a blank check to dismantle democracy."

Refuting the DP's justification that the moves were necessary to "minimize gaps in state affairs" and focus on "public livelihoods," Park dismissed it as "nothing more than a cowardly, deceptive excuse to mislead the public." He further argued, "Since the 13th National Assembly in 1988, it has been a parliamentary principle and tradition to have the majority party take the National Assembly Speaker while the second-largest party takes the chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to prevent a concentration of power. They have shattered even this minimal system of checks and balances."

He sharpened his criticism, stating, "The DP, which used to emphasize cooperation and communication back when they were the opposition party, has completely changed its tune now that it holds power, dancing to the tune of a parliamentary dictatorship."

Regarding recent public opinion trends, Park claimed, "The drop in the DP’s approval ratings is a stern warning from the public against their self-righteousness and arrogance. Their pledge to uphold the public will after the local elections failed to last even a single month."

Spokesperson Park raised his voice, asserting, "The DP is privatizing the National Assembly to cater to the president's whims and to rush through 'bulletproof' legislation. Any power that ignores public warnings will ultimately face the judgment of the people."

He continued to emphasize, "The operation of the National Assembly cannot be run by the unilateral decisions of the majority party; majority rule is merely a last resort. Listening to minority opinions and reaching a consensus is the true essence of parliamentary democracy." He slammed the current situation, adding, "A parliament without debate is not democracy, but merely the violence of numbers."

He urged the opposition, saying, "If they do not abandon their attitude of treating the ruling party as a mere bystander rather than a partner in state affairs, they will face a growing alienation of moderate voters and mounting public fury. Even now, they must cast aside their greed for parliamentary dominance and return to the spirit of bipartisan agreement."

He concluded with a stern warning: "If they ignore these warnings and persist with dogmatic lawmaking, they will face even greater judgment from the public and a fierce political backlash."
