[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시 건설본부는 3일 ‘벡스코 제3전시장 건립사업’의 기본설계기술제안입찰 실시설계적격자로 ㈜에이치제이 중공업 컨소시엄을 최종 선정했다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 글로벌 마이스(MICE) 산업의 트렌드 변화에 발맞춰 국제적인 전시컨벤션센터를 조성하기 위해 추진된다.

벡스코 제3전시장 건립은 해운대구 우동 벡스코 제1전시장 야외 주차장 부지에 총사업비 2,900억 원을 투입해 연면적 5만 8,809제곱미터(지하 1층~지상 4층) 규모의 문화 및 집회시설을 짓는 대형 프로젝트다. 2023년 기본설계에 착수해 행정절차를 마친 뒤 지난 2025년 11월 입찰을 공고했다.

이번 입찰에서 실시설계적격자로 지정된 ㈜에이치제이 중공업 컨소시엄은 에이치제이 중공업을 비롯해 계룡건설산업, 동원개발, 태림종합건설, 온라이프건설로 구성됐다. 컨소시엄 측은 총 50개월의 공사기간을 제시했으며, 올해 9월 우선시공분 착공을 시작으로 2030년 10월 준공을 목표로 하고 있다.

부산시는 이번 사업에 설계와 시공을 병행하는 ‘패스트 트랙(Fast Track Method)’ 방식을 도입한다. 우선시공분 공사를 먼저 시작한 뒤, 나머지 본공사의 실시설계가 완료되는 대로 순차적인 공사에 들어갈 계획이다. 이를 통해 기존 전시장의 가동률 포화 문제를 조기에 해소하고 국제 컨벤션 유치 경쟁력을 강화할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

아울러 시는 공사 기간 중 기존 벡스코 제1전시장 등 시설 운영에 차질이 없도록 ㈜벡스코와 긴밀히 협의하며 총 2단계에 걸쳐 분할 공사를 진행할 방침이다.

김효숙 부산시 건설본부장은 시대적 요구에 부합하는 전시컨벤션센터를 건립해 국제관광도시 부산의 위상을 높이겠다고 밝히며, 철저한 공사 관리계획을 수립해 기존 전시장 운영에 지장이 없도록 최선을 다하겠다고 강조했다.

The Busan Metropolitan Government Construction Headquarters announced on the 3rd that it has selected the HJ Heavy Industries & Construction consortium as the successful bidder for the basic design and technical proposal for the "BEXCO Exhibition Center 3 Construction Project." This project aims to build a world-class exhibition and convention center that aligns with the evolving trends of the global MICE industry.

The construction of BEXCO Exhibition Center 3 is a large-scale project with a total budget of 290 billion won. The new cultural and assembly facility will span a total floor area of 58,809 square meters (one basement level and four ground floors) on the site of the existing Exhibition Center 1 outdoor parking lot in U-dong, Haeundae-gu. Following the initiation of the basic design in 2023 and the completion of necessary administrative procedures, the project was put out to tender in November 2025.

The HJ Heavy Industries consortium, named as the primary contractor, consists of HJ Heavy Industries & Construction, Kyeryong Construction Industrial, Dongwon Development, Taerim General Construction, and Onlife Construction. The consortium proposed a 50-month construction period, aiming to break ground on the initial phase this September and complete the project by October 2030.

Busan City plans to fast-track the project by overlapping the design and construction phases. Construction will begin with the initial phase, and subsequent main works will roll out sequentially as the detailed engineering designs are finalized. This approach is expected to promptly relieve the capacity saturation of the existing exhibition halls and significantly boost Busan's competitiveness in hosting international conventions.

To minimize disruption to the ongoing operations of Exhibition Center 1 and other existing facilities, the city will work closely with BEXCO to carry out the construction in two distinct phases.

Kim Hyo-sook, director of the Busan Construction Headquarters, stated that the city is fully committed to elevating Busan's status as an international tourism hub by building a cutting-edge convention center that meets modern demands. She added that thorough management plans will be implemented to ensure that existing exhibition operations run smoothly throughout the construction period.
