정의선 현대자동차그룹 회장이 유럽 소형 전기차 시장을 공략할 전략 모델인 아이오닉 3의 양산 품질을 직접 점검하기 위해 튀르키예 공장을 찾았다.

현대자동차그룹은 정의선 회장이 지난 7월 30일 이스탄불 인근 이즈미트에 위치한 튀르키예 공장을 방문해 아이오닉 3 생산 라인을 둘러보고 현지 생산 및 판매 전략을 논의했다고 밝혔다.

아이오닉 3는 현대차가 유럽 시장에 처음 선보이는 B 세그먼트 전기차다. 8월 중순부터 튀르키예 공장에서 양산을 시작해 하반기부터 유럽 시장에 순차적으로 판매될 예정이다. 이번 양산으로 1997년 가동을 시작한 튀르키예 공장은 설립 이래 처음으로 전기차를 생산하게 됐다.

정 회장은 차체 생산부터 의장 라인까지 생산 전 과정을 면밀히 살핀 뒤, 양산 초기부터 완벽한 품질과 안전성을 확보해 시장 경쟁력을 높일 것을 당부했다. 이어 현대모비스 BSA 공장을 방문해 아이오닉 3에 탑재될 배터리 시스템 생산 과정도 함께 점검했다.

아이오닉 3는 전용 전기차 플랫폼 E-GMP를 기반으로 공기역학 효율을 높인 에어로 해치 디자인을 적용했다. 또한 차세대 인포테인먼트 시스템인 플레오스 커넥트와 최신 스마트센스를 탑재해 상품성을 강화했다. 현대차는 내년부터 연간 4만 대 이상을 유럽 시장에 판매한다는 목표를 세웠다.

한편 튀르키예 공장은 연간 20만 대의 생산 능력을 갖춘 현대차의 가장 오래된 해외 생산 거점으로, 현재 누적 생산량 340만 대를 기록하고 있다. 현대차그룹은 공장 운영과 더불어 앙카라 한국공원 단장, 장학 사업, 지진 피해 복구 지원 등 다양한 현지 사회공헌 활동을 지속적으로 펼치고 있다.

Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, visited the company's plant in Türkiye to directly inspect the mass production quality of the IONIQ 3, a strategic subcompact EV model targeting the European market.

Hyundai Motor Group announced that Executive Chair Chung visited the plant in Izmit near Istanbul on July 30, where he toured the IONIQ 3 production line and discussed local production and sales strategies.

The IONIQ 3 is Hyundai's first B-segment electric vehicle for the European market. Mass production at the Türkiye plant is scheduled to begin in mid-August, with sales rolling out sequentially across Europe in the second half of the year. With this launch, the Türkiye plant, which began operating in 1997, is producing electric vehicles for the first time in its history.

After closely inspecting the entire manufacturing process from body stamping to final assembly, Chair Chung stressed the importance of securing flawless quality and safety from the early stages of mass production to enhance market competitiveness. He also visited the Hyundai Mobis Battery System Assembly plant to inspect the production process of the battery systems for the IONIQ 3.

Built on the dedicated EV platform E-GMP, the IONIQ 3 features an Aero Hatch design optimized for aerodynamic efficiency. It is also equipped with Pleos Connect, a next-generation infotainment system, and the latest SmartSense driver assistance system. Hyundai has set a goal to sell more than 40,000 units annually in Europe starting next year.

The Türkiye plant is Hyundai's oldest overseas manufacturing base, possessing an annual capacity of 200,000 units and a cumulative output of 3.4 million vehicles. Alongside its manufacturing operations, Hyundai Motor Group continues to carry out local social responsibility initiatives, including the renovation of Korea Park in Ankara, scholarship programs, and disaster relief support.
