[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 해양수산부 신청사가 부산광역시 동구 북항 1단계 재개발 부지에 들어선다.

전문가 심사위원회는 부지 확보 용이성과 해양 관련 기관 집적 가능성, 교통 접근성 등을 종합 평가해 북항 해양클러스터 부지를 최종 입지로 선정했으며, 해양수산부는 올해 안에 청사 규모를 확정한 뒤 2030년 준공을 목표로 후속 절차를 본격 추진한다.

해양수산부는 6일 신청사 건립을 위한 최종 부지로 부산광역시 동구가 제안한 북항 1단계 재개발 부지(해양클러스터 E-1-1)를 선정했다고 밝혔다.

신청사 부지는 부산 동구 초량동 1270번지 일원에 위치한 북항 1단계 재개발 구역으로, 부지면적은 7만2,456.7㎡, 계획 연면적은 43만4,740.2㎡ 규모다. 현재 부산국제여객터미널 주차장으로 사용되고 있으며, 토지는 부산항만공사가 소유하고 있어 국가 귀속이 가능한 것으로 알려졌다.

해양수산부는 지난 7월 29일부터 31일까지 부산시 기초지방정부를 대상으로 신청사 후보지 제안서를 접수했으며, 강서구·남구·동구·중구 등 4개 자치구가 참여했다.

최종 선정은 지난 5일 열린 제안 설명회와 전문가 심사를 거쳐 이뤄졌다. 도시·교통, 해양수산 분야 전문가와 학계, 시민단체, 직원 대표 등 10명으로 구성된 부지선정 심사위원회는 공정하고 객관적인 평가를 실시했으며, 북항 1단계 재개발 부지는 부지 확보의 용이성, 해양 관련 기관과의 집적 효과, 교통 접근성 등 주요 평가 항목에서 높은 점수를 받았다.

특히 신청사 예정지는 부산국제여객터미널과 인접한 북항 해양클러스터 중심부에 위치해 해양·항만 관련 기관과의 연계성이 뛰어나고, 향후 북극항로 시대를 대비한 해양행정의 핵심 거점으로서 역할을 수행할 것으로 기대된다.

해양수산부는 부지 선정이 완료됨에 따라 올해 안에 신청사 시설 규모를 확정하고 기본계획 수립과 설계 등 후속 절차를 거쳐 2030년까지 신청사 건립을 완료한다는 계획이다.

황종우 해양수산부 장관은 "부지 선정 과정에서 관심과 협조를 보내준 부산 시민과 기초지방정부에 감사드린다"며 "북극항로 시대를 선도할 남부 해양수도권의 핵심 거점이 될 신청사가 계획대로 건립될 수 있도록 모든 행정력을 집중하겠다"고 말했다.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) has selected the Phase 1 redevelopment site at Busan North Port in Dong-gu, Busan, as the location for its new headquarters. Chosen through an independent expert evaluation process, the site received the highest overall assessment for land availability, potential for clustering with related maritime institutions, and transportation accessibility. The ministry plans to complete the new headquarters by 2030.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on August 6 that the Phase 1 redevelopment site at Busan North Port, proposed by Dong-gu District, has been selected as the final location for its new headquarters.

Located at 1270 Choryang-dong in Dong-gu, Busan, the site is part of the North Port Phase 1 redevelopment project within the Maritime Cluster E-1-1 district. It covers 72,456.7 square meters and is planned to accommodate a total floor area of 434,740.2 square meters. The property is currently used as the parking lot for the Busan International Passenger Terminal. Although the land is privately owned by the Busan Port Authority, it can be transferred to the national government for the headquarters project.

The ministry accepted site proposals from Busan's district governments between July 29 and July 31. Four districts—Gangseo-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu, and Jung-gu—submitted proposals.

The final decision was made following presentations by the participating districts on August 5 and an evaluation by a 10-member site selection committee comprising experts in urban planning, transportation, and maritime affairs, as well as representatives from academia, civic organizations, and ministry employees.

The Busan North Port Phase 1 redevelopment site earned the highest overall evaluation, receiving strong scores for ease of land acquisition, its ability to accommodate a cluster of maritime-related institutions, and excellent transportation access.

Situated adjacent to the Busan International Passenger Terminal, the site is expected to strengthen cooperation among maritime and port-related organizations while serving as a strategic administrative hub supporting South Korea's maritime development and preparations for emerging Arctic shipping routes.

With the site selection now complete, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to finalize the scale of the new headquarters within this year and proceed with the necessary planning, design, and construction procedures, with completion targeted for 2030.

MOF Minister Hwang Jong-woo expressed appreciation to the citizens of Busan and the participating local governments for their support throughout the selection process. He said the ministry would make every effort to ensure the successful construction of the new headquarters, which is expected to become a key base for the nation's southern maritime region in the era of Arctic shipping routes.
