[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 클래식부산이 부산콘서트홀 개관 1주년을 기념해 정명훈 예술감독이 지휘하는 콘서트오페라 ‘오텔로’를 선보인다.

 

공연은 오는 10월 10일과 11일 오후 5시 부산콘서트홀에서 열린다. 클래식부산이 직접 기획·제작하는 이번 무대에는 세계 정상급 성악가와 국내외 연주자, 지역 예술인들이 함께 참여한다.

 

주세페 베르디의 대표작 ‘오텔로’는 셰익스피어의 비극을 바탕으로 한 작품이다. 1887년 2월 5일 밀라노 라 스칼라 극장에서 초연된 이후 사랑과 질투, 의심과 배신 등 인간의 보편적인 감정을 강렬한 음악과 극적인 서사로 표현한 베르디 후기의 걸작으로 평가받고 있다.

 

이번 공연의 지휘는 클래식부산 정명훈 예술감독이 맡는다. 베르디 오페라에 대한 정명훈 예술감독의 해석과 함께 콘서트오페라 형식으로 오케스트라의 풍부한 사운드와 성악가들의 섬세한 표현을 가까이에서 감상할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

 

주인공 오텔로 역에는 미국 출신 테너 그레고리 쿤데가 출연한다. 빈 국립오페라, 런던 로열오페라하우스, 파리국립오페라 등 세계 주요 오페라 무대에서 활동해 온 그레고리 쿤데는 세계적인 테너이자 베르디 ‘오텔로’의 대표적인 해석자로 손꼽힌다.

 

이아고 역은 메트로폴리탄 오페라와 밀라노 라 스칼라 등 정상급 무대에서 활약해 온 세르비아 출신 바리톤 젤리코 루치치가 맡는다. 데스데모나 역에는 독일 도르트문트 극장 전속가수로 활동하며 유럽 주요 무대에 오른 소프라노 손지혜가 출연한다.

 

이와 함께 부산 출신 메조소프라노 사비나 김과 베이스 바리톤 이준오, 테너 황준호·김재일, 베이스 김철준 등 국내외 무대에서 활동하는 성악가들이 무대에 오른다.

 

연주는 아시아필하모닉오케스트라(APO)가 맡으며, 클래식부산합창단과 노이오페라코러스, 해운대구립소년소녀합창단 등 지역 예술단체와 예술인들도 공연에 참여한다.

 

이번 공연은 세계적인 예술가를 초청하는 데 그치지 않고 클래식부산이 직접 제작하고 지역 예술인들이 제작 과정과 공연에 함께한다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

 

클래식부산은 그동안 ‘피델리오’와 ‘카르멘’을 비롯해 HELLO오페라 시리즈, 부산오페라하우스 야외오페라 등 다양한 오페라 작품을 기획·제작하며 부산 시민들과 만나 왔다. 세계적인 예술가와 국내외 성악가, 지역 예술단체가 함께하는 제작을 통해 부산의 오페라 제작 역량도 꾸준히 쌓아 왔다.

 

이번 ‘오텔로’는 이러한 자체 제작 경험을 바탕으로 클래식부산의 오페라 제작 역량을 한 단계 높이는 계기가 될 것으로 보인다. 또한 2027년 부산오페라하우스 개관을 앞두고 부산의 오페라 제작 기반을 더욱 탄탄하게 구축하는 데도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

 

티켓은 오는 18일 오후 2시부터 클래식부산 회원을 대상으로 선예매가 진행되며, 8월 19일 오후 2시부터 일반예매가 시작된다. 예매는 클래식부산 공식 누리집과 NOL 티켓에서 할 수 있다.

World-renowned tenor Gregory Kunde and baritone Željko Lučić to perform at Busan Concert Hall on October 10 and 11

 

Classic Busan will present a concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, conducted by its artistic director Myung-Whun Chung, at Busan Concert Hall on October 10 and 11 at 5 p.m.

 

The production commemorates the first anniversary of the opening of Busan Concert Hall. It is being planned and produced by Classic Busan and will bring together world-class singers, leading Korean and international musicians, and local artists.

 

Based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Otello was composed by the Italian opera master Giuseppe Verdi and premiered at Teatro alla Scala in Milan on February 5, 1887. The work is regarded as one of Verdi’s late masterpieces, expressing universal human emotions such as love, jealousy, suspicion and betrayal through powerful music and dramatic storytelling.

 

Myung-Whun Chung, artistic director of Classic Busan, will conduct the performance. Audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience Verdi’s Otello through Chung’s interpretation, particularly a work widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Verdi’s musical and dramatic artistry.

 

Presented in concert-opera format, the performance will allow audiences to experience the rich sound of the orchestra and the singers’ nuanced interpretations at close range.

 

The title role of Otello will be performed by American tenor Gregory Kunde, who has appeared on major opera stages around the world. Kunde is widely recognized as one of the leading interpreters of Verdi’s Otello and has performed at such prestigious venues as the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London and the Paris Opera.

 

The role of Iago will be sung by Serbian baritone Željko Lučić, who has performed at leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera and Teatro alla Scala. German-based soprano Son Ji-hye, a resident artist at Theater Dortmund, will take the role of Desdemona.

 

The cast also includes mezzo-soprano Sabina Kim, who is originally from Busan, bass-baritone Lee Jun-oh, tenor Hwang Jun-ho, tenor Kim Jae-il and bass Kim Cheol-jun, all of whom are active on stages in Korea and abroad.

 

The Asian Philharmonic Orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment. The Classic Busan Choir, Noi Opera Chorus and Haeundae District Children’s Choir, along with other local arts organizations and artists, will also take part in the production.

 

The performance is significant not only because it features world-class artists, but also because it is being produced directly by Classic Busan with local artists participating in both the production process and the performances.

 

Classic Busan has continued to build its opera production capabilities by planning and producing a range of works, including Fidelio, Carmen, the HELLO Opera series and outdoor opera performances at the Busan Opera House. Through productions that bring together internationally acclaimed artists, Korean and international singers, and local arts organizations, it has steadily expanded Busan’s opera-making infrastructure.

 

Otello is expected to further strengthen Classic Busan’s production capabilities and contribute to the development of Busan’s opera ecosystem ahead of the planned opening of the Busan Opera House in 2027.

 

Advance ticket sales for Classic Busan members will begin at 2 p.m. on August 18, followed by general sales at 2 p.m. on August 19. Tickets will be available through the official Classic Busan website and NOL Ticket.
