The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will present a special program titled 'Beautiful Days, Ahn Sung-ki,' honoring the legacy of the late legendary actor and marking a fitting finale to his memory.

Jointly organized with the Korean Film Archive, this retrospective features a selection of films personally recommended by Ahn when the program was first proposed to him during his lifetime. The lineup highlights six iconic works from his most prolific period during the 1980s and 1990s: Lee Jang-ho's 'A Fine, Windy Day' (1980), which marked his transition into adult roles; Bae Chang-ho's 'Whale Hunting' (1984); Park Kwang-su's directorial debut 'Chil-su and Man-su' (1988); Lee Myung-se's debut feature 'Gagman' (1989); Chung Ji-young's 'White Badge' (1992); and Im Kwon-taek's 'Festival' (1996).

The screenings will be accompanied by Guest Visit (GV) talks featuring directors and cast members who collaborated with Ahn, including actors Kim Bo-yeon, Kim Soo-chul, and Bae Jong-ok. A diverse group of special moderators—comprising film directors Jang Kun-jae, Kim Cho-hee, Park Yi-woong, Yoon Dan-bi, and Oh Jung-min, alongside film critic Jung Sung-il and political scientist Dr. Kim Ji-yoon—will also participate to reflect on his artistic legacy. Additionally, BIFF will publish a commemorative book titled 'Between Adventure and Exemplar: Actor of the Era, Ahn Sung-ki', featuring a critical essay by Jung Sung-il, film reviews, and interviews with colleagues.

Debuting as a child actor in 'Twilight Train' (1957) and appearing in 'Defiance of a Teenager' (1959), Ahn went on to star in landmark Korean films such as 'A Ball Shot by a Midget' (1981), 'The Taebaek Mountains' (1994), 'Two Cops' (1993), and 'Silmido' (2003). Over his decades-long career, he received numerous accolades at the Grand Bell Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Baeksang Arts Awards. Beyond his acting career, Ahn served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and held positions as executive director and deputy director of BIFF. Following his passing on January 5, 2026, he was posthumously awarded the Gold Crown Order of Cultural Merit, the nation's highest honor in arts and culture.

The 31st Busan International Film Festival will run for ten days from October 6 to October 15 at the Busan Cinema Center.
