[Here is the English version of the article] Busan City Council Opens 15-Day Session to Review 134 Bills, Budget

The Busan Metropolitan Council opened a 15-day extraordinary session Friday to review and vote on 134 bills, including a supplementary budget, ordinances and consent motions, while lawmakers press the city administration on major policy and development issues.

The 339th extraordinary session will run through Sept. 11. The council plans to consider 26 ordinances, 99 consent motions, one opinion-hearing item, four resolutions and four budget-related bills during the session.

The first plenary session Friday will feature five-minute free speeches by 12 lawmakers. They are expected to raise concerns involving education, welfare, culture, sports and transportation, focusing on administrative gaps and inconveniences affecting residents and proposing measures to improve city policies and public services.

Nine lawmakers will then question the city administration during the second and third plenary sessions on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Key issues include redevelopment of the former Beomcheon rail vehicle maintenance site, support for residents vulnerable to heat waves and climate-related risks, and plans to build an underground parking facility beneath Busan Citizens Park.

Lawmakers will also question officials about the proposed relocation of the Korea Development Bank, commonly known as KDB, to Busan, plans for a multipurpose domed arena at Busan North Port and efforts to revitalize the city's older downtown districts.

The council's standing committees will meet from Sept. 2 through Sept. 7 to examine the city's third supplementary budget for 2026, along with ordinances and other legislative measures.

The Budget and Accounts Special Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the supplementary budget from Sept. 8 through Sept. 10.

The session will conclude Sept. 11 with a fourth plenary meeting, when lawmakers will vote on measures reviewed by the standing committees and the budget committee. Additional five-minute free speeches are also scheduled.

Council Speaker Kang Moo-gil said the session would provide an opportunity to closely examine major municipal issues and push for practical measures that residents can feel in their daily lives.

The Busan Metropolitan Council's next extraordinary session, the 340th, is scheduled to open Sept. 29.
