[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 4일 오전 지역 명문 향토기업인 ㈜화승코퍼레이션과 370억 원 규모의 ‘부산 실증테크센터(R&D센터)’ 건립을 위한 투자 양해각서를 연제구 화승코퍼레이션 본사에서 체결한다고 밝혔다.

이날 박형준 시장은 화승코퍼레이션 본사를 방문해 투자 양해각서를 체결한 뒤 제품홍보관과 업무시설을 둘러보며 부산 투자를 결정한 데 대해 감사의 뜻을 전하고 임직원을 격려했다.

1978년 부산에서 설립된 화승코퍼레이션은 지난 50여 년간 부산을 거점으로 세계적인 자동차 부품 및 소재 전문 기업으로 성장한 대표적인 지역 명문 향토기업이다. 독보적인 탄성체 소재 기술력을 바탕으로 글로벌 네트워크를 구축했으며, 연 매출 약 1조 7천억 원 규모의 안정적인 실적을 기반으로 최근에는 친환경 비자동차 분야로 사업 영역을 넓히며 제2의 도약을 준비하고 있다.

이번 투자 결정에 따라 화승코퍼레이션은 기장군 공장 내 약 5천 평 규모의 유휴 부지에 2027년까지 370억 원을 투자해 ‘부산 실증테크센터(R&D센터)’를 조성한다. 센터는 기존 자동차 부품 중심의 연구개발을 넘어 실물 인공지능(피지컬 AI)과 로봇공학(로보틱스) 기반 자동화 기술, 신소재 탄성체를 실증·검증·사업화하는 인큐베이팅 기능을 수행하는 전략적 기술 거점으로 구축될 예정이다.

또한 연구개발 인력 등을 포함해 260여 명의 이전 및 신규 고용이 예상돼 지역 청년층 정착과 지역경제 활성화에 기여하는 명문 향토기업의 모범 사례가 될 것으로 기대된다.

시는 기업의 원활한 투자 이행을 위해 관련 부서를 총동원한 맞춤형 지원에 나선다. 우선 산업단지 입주 업종 확대를 통해 경직된 규제를 개선, 기업 투자에 걸림돌이 되는 요소를 선제적으로 해소하고, 이를 통해 제조업 위주인 명례산업단지에 첨단·신산업 유입과 투자가 활발히 이뤄지도록 유도할 방침이다. 아울러 투자보조금을 비롯해 투자 이후에도 밀착 관리를 통해 현장 애로사항을 즉시 해결함으로써 기업이 안정적으로 사업을 추진할 수 있는 환경을 제공한다.

한편 주요 대기업 연구개발(R&D) 센터가 수도권과 충청권에 집중된 상황에서, 최근 조선업계 대형 R&D센터 유치에 이어 화승코퍼레이션 실증테크센터의 부산 유치는 지역 균형 발전 측면에서도 의미 있는 성과로 평가된다. 특히 청년 고급 인재가 지역에 머물 수 있는 기술 기반을 확충해 부산 산업 구조를 첨단 연구 중심으로 재편하는 데 기여할 것으로 전망된다.

시는 이를 기반으로 산학 연계 체계를 한층 강화해 매년 지역 22개 대학에서 배출되는 우수 전문 인력과 쾌적한 정주 환경을 바탕으로 미래지향적 경영 환경을 조성하고, 지식서비스 기업 유치를 지속해서 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

현지호 화승코퍼레이션 대표는 “부산 실증테크센터는 단순한 연구시설 확장이 아니라 피지컬 AI, 로보틱스, 신소재 등 화승의 향후 10년을 준비하기 위한 전략적 전환점”이라며 “기술 실증과 신사업 인큐베이팅을 통해 기존 사업의 한계를 넘어 새로운 산업 가치를 지속적으로 창출해 나가며 부산 지역의 경제 성장과 산업 발전에 이바지하겠다”고 말했다.

The Busan Metropolitan Government said it will sign a 37 billion won investment memorandum of understanding with local flagship company Hwasung Corporation on Tuesday to build the “Busan Demonstration Tech Center (R&D Center).”

Mayor Park Heong-joon is scheduled to visit Hwasung’s headquarters in Yeonje District at 10 a.m., where he will sign the agreement, tour the company’s product promotion hall and office facilities, thank executives for choosing to invest in Busan and encourage employees.

Founded in Busan in 1978, Hwasung Corporation has grown over the past five decades into a leading global automotive parts and materials manufacturer based in the city. Leveraging its strong technology in elastomer materials, the company has built a global network and now posts stable annual sales of about 1.7 trillion won, while recently expanding into eco-friendly, non-automotive businesses as it prepares for its next stage of growth.

Under the investment plan, Hwasung will spend 37 billion won by 2027 to build the Busan Demonstration Tech Center on an idle site of about 5,000 pyeong at its plant in Gijang County. The center will serve as a strategic technology hub that goes beyond traditional automotive parts R&D to incubate new businesses by demonstrating, validating and commercializing automation technologies based on physical artificial intelligence and robotics, as well as advanced elastomer materials.

The project is expected to involve the relocation and hiring of about 260 research and development and related staff, and is projected to help more young people settle in the region and to revitalize the local economy as a model case of a homegrown flagship company reinvesting in its community.

The city plans tailored support to ensure the investment proceeds smoothly. It will first ease rigid regulations by broadening the range of permitted industries in local industrial complexes, preemptively removing barriers to corporate investment and encouraging the inflow of high-tech and new industries into the traditionally manufacturing-centered Myeongnye Industrial Complex. Busan will also provide investment subsidies and maintain close post-investment support to quickly resolve on-site difficulties and create a stable environment for business operations.

At a time when major corporate R&D centers remain heavily concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan and Chungcheong areas, Busan’s recent success in attracting a large shipbuilding R&D center and now Hwasung’s Demonstration Tech Center is seen as a meaningful step for balanced regional development. The city expects the move to strengthen the technological base that allows highly skilled young talent to stay in the region and to help shift Busan’s industrial structure toward advanced, research-centered industries.

Building on this, Busan plans to further reinforce industry-academia collaboration, drawing on the pool of outstanding specialists graduating each year from the city’s 22 universities and its strong quality-of-life environment to foster a future-oriented business climate and attract more knowledge-based service companies.

Hyeon Ji-ho, CEO of Hwasung Corporation, said the Busan Demonstration Tech Center is “not just an expansion of research facilities, but a strategic turning point to prepare for Hwasung’s next 10 years in physical AI, robotics and new materials.” He added that by using the center for technology demonstration and new business incubation, the company aims to move beyond the limits of its existing operations, continuously create new industrial value and contribute to Busan’s economic growth and industrial development.

Mayor Park said the investment “shows once again that Busan is establishing itself as a hub for advanced industrial R&D.” He expressed deep appreciation to Hwasung for choosing Busan over the Seoul metropolitan area for its large-scale investment and vowed that the city will fully support the company’s stable growth in Busan, from investment incentives and R&D support to workforce development and comprehensive industry-academia cooperation in future-oriented fields such as eco-friendly materials.
