[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산에서 세계 남자 프로테니스 유망주와 정상급 선수들이 격돌하는 국제 대회가 열린다. 총상금 22만5천 달러가 걸린 ‘2026 부산오픈 국제남자챌린저 테니스대회’가 4월 12일부터 19일까지 금정체육공원 테니스경기장에서 개최된다.

부산시가 밝힌 이번 대회는 국내에서 열리는 남자 챌린저 대회 중 최상위 등급인 ‘챌린저 125’급으로, 세계남자프로테니스협회와 대한테니스협회가 공동 주최하고 부산오픈조직위원회가 주관한다. 1999년 국내 대회로 시작해 2003년 국제대회로 확대된 이후 올해로 22주년을 맞았다.

이번 대회에는 약 30개국에서 80여 명의 선수가 참가해 단식과 복식 총 67경기를 치른다. 일정은 4월 12일부터 13일까지 단식 예선, 14일부터 19일까지 단·복식 본선으로 진행되며, 결승전은 19일 오후 1시 30분에 열린다. 예선 경기는 무료 관람이 가능하고, 본선은 온라인 예매를 통해 입장할 수 있다.

국내 선수들의 활약도 기대된다. 데이비스컵에서 활약한 권순우를 비롯해 박의성, 남지성 등 국가대표급 선수들이 출전하며, 신우빈과 정윤성 등도 참가해 경쟁을 펼친다. 해외에서는 제임스 더크워스와 버나드 토믹 등 세계 랭킹 상위권 선수들이 참가해 대회의 수준을 끌어올릴 전망이다.

부산시는 이번 대회를 통해 시민들에게 수준 높은 스포츠 관람 기회를 제공하고, 국제 스포츠 도시로서의 위상을 강화한다는 계획이다. 시 관계자는 세계적인 선수들의 경기를 가까이에서 볼 수 있는 기회라며 많은 관심과 참여를 당부했다.

According to Busan Metropolitan City this tournament is classified as a Challenger 125 event the highest tier among mens Challenger tournaments held in Korea It is co hosted by the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Korea Tennis Association and organized by the Busan Open Organizing Committee First launched as a domestic competition in 1999 and expanded into an international event in 2003 the tournament celebrates its 22nd anniversary this year

Approximately 80 players from around 30 countries will compete in a total of 67 matches including singles and doubles The schedule includes singles qualifying rounds from April 12 to 13 followed by the main draw for singles and doubles from April 14 to 19 The final match will take place on April 19 at 1 30 PM Qualifying matches are free to attend while tickets for the main draw can be purchased online

Strong performances are also expected from Korean players Notable participants include Davis Cup player Kwon Soon woo along with Park Ui sung and Nam Ji sung all of whom have competed at the national team level Emerging players such as Shin Woo bin and Chung Yun seong will also join the competition Internationally top ranked players like James Duckworth and Bernard Tomic are set to participate further elevating the tournaments level of competition
