[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 대한항공과 손잡고 서부산권을 미래 항공우주산업의 핵심 거점으로 조성하기 위한 대규모 투자 유치에 성공했다.

박형준 부산시장은 30일 오후 강서구 대한항공 부산테크센터에서 우기홍 대한항공 대표이사 부회장과 2천억 원 규모의 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 이번 협약은 가덕도신공항과 연계한 '부산 미래항공 클러스터' 구축의 마중물이 될 전망이다.

국내 최대 항공사이자 대기업인 ㈜대한항공은 부산 강서구에 부지면적 21만 7천 평 규모의 부산테크센터를 운영하며 ▲민항기 부품(구조물) 설계·개발 및 제작 ▲무인기 개발·생산 ▲군용기·민항기 유지보수정비(MRO) 등의 사업을 영위하고 있다.

대한항공은 이번 투자를 통해 부산테크센터 내 유휴 부지 1만 1천 평에 연면적 1만 6천 평 규모의 항공우주 신규 공장을 건립한다. 신규 공장은 인공지능(AI) 기반의 차세대 무인기 제조를 비롯해 민항기 부품 생산, 군용기 성능 개량 등 항공우주 사업 확장을 위한 다목적 시설로 활용된다.

이번 성과는 부산시가 지난해부터 대한항공과 지속적으로 협의해 온 결과로, 지역 항공우주 분야 투자 유치 중 역대 최대 규모다. 시는 대한항공을 클러스터의 앵커기업으로 삼아 관련 산단 조성과 기업 유치, 산업 집적화를 가속화할 방침이다.

특히 무인기 시장이 방산뿐만 아니라 물류, 재난, 농업 등 다양한 분야로 확대되는 추세인 만큼, 이번 투자가 지역 미래 산업 구조를 고도화하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 시는 이와 함께 대한항공과 추진 중인 대규모 국가연구개발(R&D) 과제에도 박차를 가할 계획이다.

우기홍 대한항공 부회장은 이번 투자가 글로벌 무인기 시장 선점과 제작 역량 확보를 위한 전략적 결정이라며, 부산테크센터를 미래 항공산업의 핵심 거점으로 육성해 지역 경제 활성화에 이바지하겠다고 밝혔다.

박형준 시장은 대한항공이 미래항공 클러스터의 중심 역할을 할 수 있도록 행정적·재정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다며, 기업이 투자하기 좋은 환경을 지속적으로 만들어 서부산을 대한민국 항공우주산업의 산실로 만들겠다고 강조했다.

Busan City has secured a massive investment from Korean Air to transform West Busan into a strategic hub for the future aerospace industry.

Mayor Park Heong-joon and Korean Air President Woo Kee-hong signed a 200 billion won Investment Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the afternoon of the 30th at the Korean Air Busan Tech Center in Gangseo-gu. This agreement is expected to serve as a catalyst for the "Busan Future Aviation Cluster" in connection with the upcoming Gadeokdo New Airport.

As the nation's largest airline and a leading conglomerate, Korean Air operates the 717,000-square-meter Busan Tech Center in Gangseo-gu, where it engages in the design, development, and manufacturing of commercial aircraft structures,

the production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for both military and civil aircraft.

Under the agreement, Korean Air will construct a new aerospace factory with a total floor area of 52,800 square meters on an 11-acre vacant site within the Busan Tech Center. The new facility will function as a multipurpose center to expand existing aerospace operations, including the manufacturing of AI-based next-generation unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), production of aircraft parts, and military aircraft upgrades.

This achievement is the result of continuous negotiations between the city and Korean Air since last year, marking the largest investment ever in the local aerospace sector. The city plans to leverage Korean Air as an anchor tenant to accelerate the development of industrial complexes, attract related businesses, and foster industrial clustering.

The investment is particularly significant as the UAV market expands across various sectors including defense, logistics, disaster management, and agriculture. The city expects this move to play a pivotal role in advanced industrial restructuring. Furthermore, large-scale national R&D projects currently being planned with Korean Air are expected to gain significant momentum.

President Woo Kee-hong stated that this investment is a strategic decision to lead the global UAV market and secure next-generation aircraft manufacturing capabilities. He added that the company will develop the Busan Tech Center into a core base for the future aerospace industry to contribute to the local economy and national competitiveness.

Mayor Park Heong-joon expressed his gratitude for the decision, promising full administrative and financial support to ensure Korean Air plays a central role in the cluster. He emphasized his commitment to creating a business-friendly environment and establishing West Busan as the birthplace of the future aerospace industry.
