[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] “김정은 앞에선 작아지고, 야당 앞에선 버럭한다.”

 

김은혜 국민의힘 의원이 10일 SNS를 통해 김민석 국무총리를 향해 이같이 직격하며, 안보 무력화와 탈북민에 대한 편견을 동시에 비판했다.

 

김 의원은 전날 열린 대정부 질문에서 탈북민 출신 박충권 의원이 “우리 군 장병들의 경계근무 때 총 대신 삼단봉을 들라 하고, 한미 연합훈련을 축소하고, DMZ 관리로 유엔사와 승강이를 벌이고… 대한민국 정부는 김정은 심기를 보좌한다”라고 비판한 것을 언급하며 “이 말은 틀리지 않았다”고 강조했다.  

 

그는 “맞는 말에 김민석 총리는 ‘얻다 대고…’라며 버럭했다”며 “보통 할 말이 궁색해질 때 답 대신 화를 내게 된다. 논리로 설득하지 못하니 목청으로 덮으려 한다”고 비판했다.  

 

김 의원은 이어 “그런 태도는 단순한 감정이 아니라, 탈북민을 조국을 배신한 ‘반도자(叛逃者)’로 바라보던 과거의 인식이 무의식중에 드러난 것일 수 있다”며 “김 총리가 2010년 중국 칭화대 석사 논문에서 탈북민을 ‘도북자(逃北者)’, ‘반도자’로 지칭했던 사실이 다시 회자되는 이유가 있다”고 꼬집었다.  

 

그는 “이재명 정부는 스스로 대북 억제 주도권을 포기하고 있다”며 “정부의 안보 정책이 북한의 눈치를 보느라 현실을 외면하고 있다”고 비판했다. 이어 “한미 연합훈련을 축소하고, DMZ 관리 문제로 유엔사와 충돌하는가 하면, 상호성이 무너진 9·19 군사합의의 복원까지 추진하고 있다”며 “북핵 위협이 여전한 상황에서 대한민국은 사실상 인질 상태”라고 성토했다.  

 

김 의원은 “불과 5개월 전, 북한 지령을 받고 우리 군 정보를 넘긴 민노총 전 간부가 대법원에서 징역 9년 6개월형을 확정받았는데도 정부는 방첩사 해체를 논의하고, 간첩죄 강화법은 미루고 있다”며 “대북 공조를 강화하기는커녕 방첩망을 허물고 있다”고 비판했다.  

 

그는 또 “이 정부는 김정은의 심기를 보좌하듯 움직이고 있다”면서 “군사훈련 중단과 정찰활동 축소 검토는 자발적인 무장 해제 행위로, 국민의 생명과 영토를 지킬 최소한의 방패마저 내려놓는 일”이라고 지적했다.  

 

김 의원은 이어 “혹시 대북 송금 사건이 마음에 걸려 정부가 북한에 강하게 나서지 못하는 것 아닌가”라며 “그 결과 대한민국의 안보 레버리지가 점점 약화되고 있다”라고 의혹을 제기했다.  

 

그는 또, 일본 다카이치 총리의 압승으로 미일 안보축이 강화된 상황을 언급하며 “이 정부는 김정은 눈치를 보느라 미국, 일본 등 동맹국과의 전략적 신뢰까지 잃고 있다”고 경고했다.  

 

김 의원은 미국 엘브리지 콜비 국방부 차관의 발언을 인용하며 “동맹은 감정에 의지할 수 없다. 그런데 이 정부는 감정적 대응과 정치적 계산으로 안보를 흔들고 있다”고 비판했다.  

 

그는 “한반도가 직면한 엄혹한 안보 격랑을 고성으로 회피한 총리는 국민께 사과해야 한다”며 “국민이 의구심을 갖고 있는 영토 수호 의지, 그리고 북한의 선의라는 허망한 구호에 기댄 두 번의 실패를 되풀이할 건지 이 정부는 답해야 한다”고 촉구했다.  

 

그러면서 김 의원은 “국민의 안전보다 북한의 체면을 먼저 생각하는 정부가 되어선 안 된다”며 “김민석 총리는 국민 앞에 사과하고 안보 실패의 책임을 직시해야 한다”고 거듭 요구했다.

“He shrinks before Kim Jong-un but lashes out at the opposition.”

Rep. Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party on Monday took direct aim at Prime Minister Kim Min-seok in a social media post, criticizing what she called the government’s weakened security posture and its lingering prejudice against North Korean defectors.

 

During a parliamentary session, Park Chung-kwon, a lawmaker who defected from North Korea, criticized the government, saying, “Our soldiers are told to carry batons instead of rifles during guard duty, joint drills with the United States are being scaled down, and disputes with the U.N. Command over DMZ management continue… The South Korean government seems to be accommodating Kim Jong-un’s moods.” Referencing his remarks, Kim Eun-hye asserted, “He wasn't wrong when he said this government is essentially acting as a valet for Kim Jong-un’s ego.”

 

Critique of the Prime Minister’s Conduct

“In response to these valid points, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok lost his temper, shouting ‘How dare you!’” Kim remarked. “People usually resort to anger when they run out of excuses. Unable to persuade with logic, he tried to drown out the truth with shouting.”

 

She further suggested that such an attitude stems from a deep-seated bias. “This isn't just about emotion; it may be an unconscious manifestation of viewing defectors as 'traitors' who abandoned their country. There is a reason why the Prime Minister’s 2010 master’s thesis at Tsinghua University—where he referred to defectors as ‘escapees’ or ‘traitors’—is resurfacing.”

 

Concerns Over Weakening National Security

Kim accused President Lee Jae-myung’s administration of “surrendering deterrence and losing control of national defense.” She said the government’s decision to reduce joint military drills with the U.S., argue with the U.N. Command, and consider reviving the 2018 inter-Korean military pact “undermines South Korea’s ability to defend itself.” “Under North Korea’s nuclear threats, South Korea remains a hostage,” she said.

 

Referring to a Supreme Court ruling five months ago sentencing a former militant labor leader to nine and a half years in prison for spying for Pyongyang, Kim criticized the government for “pushing to dismantle the Defense Counterintelligence Command while stalling on revising espionage laws.” “Instead of strengthening counterespionage systems, the government is dismantling them,” she said.

 

A Call for Accountability

Rep. Kim raised suspicions that the government’s passive stance might be linked to the “illegal North Korea remittance case,” suggesting that political baggage is weakening South Korea’s strategic leverage.

 

She also warned of a widening gap with allies. Mentioning the strengthening U.S.-Japan security axis following Prime Minister Takaichi’s landslide victory, she noted, “By walking on eggshells around Kim Jong-un, this government is losing the strategic trust of our allies, including the U.S. and Japan.”

 

Quoting former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby, she reminded the administration that “alliances cannot rely on emotion.”, “The Prime Minister, who chose to deflect the harsh realities of the Korean Peninsula’s security crisis with shouting, owes the public an apology,” Kim demanded. “The government must answer whether it will repeat past failures by clinging to the hollow slogan of 'North Korean goodwill' at the expense of our territorial integrity.”

 

She concluded by emphasizing that a government must never prioritize North Korea’s 'face' over the safety of its own citizens, calling on Prime Minister Kim to take responsibility for these security failures.
