[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘 박덕흠 공천관리위원장은 11일 오후 여의도 중앙당사에서 경선 결과를 발표하며, 박형준 시장이 주진우 의원(부산 해운대갑·초선)과의 경선에서 승리해 후보로 확정되었다고 밝혔다.

 

이번 경선은 지난 9일부터 10일까지 이틀간 진행되었다. 공정성을 기하기 위해 '책임당원 투표 (50%), 일반 국민 여론조사 (50%)' 두 가지 지표를 각각  50%씩 반영하여 합산하는 방식으로 치러졌다.

 

국민의힘 부산시장 후보로 최종 확정된 박형준 시장은 경선 승리 소감을 밝히며 ‘월드 클래스 부산’ 완성과 ‘낙동강 전선 사수’를 다짐했다. 또한, 박 시장은 보수 대통합과 본선 승리를 위한 결의를 강조했다.  

 

박 시장은 “저를 국민의힘 부산시장 후보로 선택해 주신 시민과 당원 여러분께 깊이 감사드린다”며 “본선에서 반드시 승리해 여러분의 선택이 옳았음을 증명하겠다”고 말했다. 그는 “선의의 경쟁을 펼쳐 주신 주진우 후보께 진심으로 감사드린다. 그 열정과 혜안, 과감한 문제 제기는 부산 시정에 큰 자산이 될 것”이라며 “경쟁은 끝났고 이제 우리는 하나”라고 강조했다.  

 

이어 “지금부터는 승리의 시간이다. 이제 보수 대통합, 시민 대통합을 이루자. 더 큰 ‘우리’를 만들자. ‘우리’의 크기가 본선 승리를 좌우할 것”이라며 “사즉생의 각오로 이번 선거에 임하겠다”고 밝혔다.  

 

박 시장은 이번 선거가 부산시장 개인의 선거를 넘어 지방자치 전체의 선거라고 규정했다. 그는 “부산시장 한 사람만의 선거가 아니라 시의원 47명, 구청장·군수 16명, 구·군의원 182명의 선거다. 제가 야전사령관이자 선봉장이 되어 부산 전체의 승리를 위해 제 전부를 던지겠다”고 말했다.  

 

또한 “모든 국민의힘 후보가 부산시민과 하나 되어 반드시 낙동강 전선을 사수하자”며 “이번 선거는 단순한 지방선거가 아니라 부산이 계속 도약할 것인가, 아니면 쇠퇴의 길로 들어설 것인가를 가르는 운명의 선거”라고 강조했다.  

 

박 시장은 지난 5년간 시정 성과를 언급하며 “글로벌 허브도시 부산, 다시 태어나도 살고 싶은 도시 부산을 약속드리고 쉼 없이 달려왔다. 부산은 이제 양적 성장을 넘어 질적 도약의 비등점에 도달했고 월드 클래스 부산으로 도약할 준비를 마쳤다”고 말했다.  

 

그는 “도시는 연속성으로 발전하고 정책은 일관성으로 완성된다. 부산은 지금 올바른 길로 가고 있으며 이 길을 멈출 수 없다”고 밝혔다.  

 

박 시장은 이번 선거가 현 정권의 ‘부산 차별’을 심판하는 의미를 갖는다고 주장했다. 그는 “부산의 미래 100년을 책임질 글로벌허브도시특별법이 마지막 문턱에서 가로막힌 이유가 무엇이냐. 전북과 강원은 되고, 왜 부산은 안 되느냐. 이것이 형평이냐, 아니면 노골적인 차별이냐”고 반문했다.  

 

또 “이 법안의 대표발의자인 전재수 민주당 의원은 즉시 통과를 약속했다가 대통령 한마디에 태도를 바꿨다”며 “부산시장은 시민의 대표여야지 권력의 대리인이 되어서는 안 된다”고 말했다.  

 

박 시장은 이번 지방선거를 두고 “민주주의를 가장한 독재를 물리치는 선거”라고 규정했다. 그는 “이재명 정권은 입법부, 행정부, 사법부를 넘어 지방정부까지 장악하려 하고 있다. 지방정부마저 넘어가는 순간 이 나라는 견제 없는 일당 지배 국가가 될 것”이라며 “부산이 민주주의의 마지막 방파제가 되어야 한다”고 호소했다.  

 

끝으로 그는 “부산은 늘 나라의 마지막을 지켜낸 도시였다. 지금 우리는 또 하나의 낙동강 전선 앞에 서 있다. 부산의 미래를 지키는 전선, 부산의 자존을 지키는 전선, 대한민국의 민주주의를 지키는 전선이다. 나는 지키겠다. 끝까지 지키겠다”며 “부산은 멈출 수 없다. 앞으로 나아가느냐, 다시 무너지느냐. 선택은 분명하다. 월드 클래스 부산을 반드시 완성하고 낙동강 전선을 부산 시민과 함께 사수하겠다”고 결기를 다짐했다.

Park Vows to “Complete World-Class Busan” and “Defend the Nakdong River Front”*

 

Park Deok-heum, head of the People Power Party’s Nomination Committee, announced on the afternoon of April 11 at the party’s Yeouido headquarters that incumbent Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun has defeated lawmaker Joo Jin-woo (Haeundae-gap, first-term) to secure the party’s nomination for the upcoming Busan mayoral race.

 

The primary was held over two days, from April 9 to 10. To ensure fairness, the results were determined by combining votes from registered party members (50%) and a public opinion poll (50%).

 

Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, who was confirmed as the People Power Party’s official candidate for Busan mayor, vowed to build a “world-class Busan” and lead the upcoming election “through civic unity.”  

 

During his acceptance speech on April 11, Park expressed deep gratitude to both party members and citizens for their support. “I will prove that your choice was right by winning the general election,” he said. Park also thanked his primary rival, Joo Jin-woo, saying, “His passion, insight, and bold ideas will serve as a valuable asset for Busan’s administration. The competition is over—now we are one.”  

 

Calling for unity within the party, Park said, “This is the time for victory. Let us achieve conservative unity and civic unity. The scale of our ‘we’ will determine our success in the election.” He added that he would “fight this race with the resolve of one who stakes his life.”  

 

Park emphasized that the upcoming local elections are not just about choosing a mayor. “This is not a race for a single seat,” he said. “It’s an election for 47 city council members, 16 district mayors, and 182 district and county council members. I will act as field commander and vanguard, dedicating myself entirely to the victory of Busan as a whole.”  

 

He continued, “All People Power Party candidates must unite with the citizens of Busan to defend the Nakdong River front. This is not just a local election—it’s a defining moment to decide whether Busan continues to advance or falls back.”  

 

Reflecting on his five years in office, Park said, “I have worked tirelessly toward making Busan a global hub city—a place people would choose to live in again if born anew. Busan has now reached the point of qualitative transformation and is ready to leap forward as a world-class city.”  

 

“Urban growth comes through continuity, and policies are perfected through consistency,” he added. “Busan is on the right path, and that path must not be stopped.”  

 

Park also framed the election as “a judgment on the current administration’s discrimination against Busan.” He criticized delays in passing the *Global Hub City Special Act*, asking, “Why were Jeonbuk and Gangwon approved while Busan was left out? Is this fairness—or blatant discrimination?”  

 

He accused the ruling Democratic Party of political subservience, saying, “Representative Jeon Jae-soo, who led the bill, promised swift passage but backed down at the President’s word. The mayor of Busan must represent citizens, not act as an agent of central power.”  

 

Park went on to describe the coming election as “a battle against authoritarianism disguised as democracy.” He argued, “The Lee Jae-myung administration is trying to dominate not only the legislative, executive, and judicial branches but also local governments. If that happens, Korea will become a one-party state without checks or balance. Busan must be the last breakwater defending democracy.”  

 

Concluding his remarks, Park said, “Busan has always stood as the final stronghold protecting the nation. Now we face another Nakdong front—one that defends Busan’s future, dignity, and Korea’s democracy. I will protect it to the end. Busan cannot stop. The choice is clear: move forward or fall back. I will complete World-Class Busan and defend the Nakdong line together with the citizens of Busan.”
